...after an ibissymal week, I have taken the day off and got down to Bondi this morning to see the Fluro Friday crew celebrating World Mental Health Day. Their philosophy to get out there, into the ocean and one wave is all it will take to cheer you up and make a difference...it certainly did for me :)

Elegant canopies, providing environmentally friendly shading and cooling, which protect visitors against the extremes of the Singaporean climate and maintain the temperature at 28 deg Celsius, cover the four internal streets and central courtyard. Known as the Angels, the willowy umbrella-like structures comprise ETFE (Ethyl Tetra Fluro Ethylene) cushioned canopies, supported on steel fames. Cantilevering over the roofs of adjacent shop houses, the angels provide solar shading and rain protection. The frames of the Angels support large Whale tail slow speed fans that provide a low level artificial breeze in the streets.

Male King Parrot in the Camellias

It was Five years today September 4, 2015 that Canterbury was first shaken by a major quake, the people of Christchurch gathered on New Brighton beach this morning to mark the anniversary. I went with a friend but she didn't want to get up so early so we missed part of it. New Brighton Christchurch New Zealand at dawn.

There was a person from Radio News interviewing people there about their experiences of the earthquake five years ago and I was on the Radio News and also in a article.

This the link to me on the News www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/20...

And this is the article: www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/283264/christchurch-marks...

With my back to the sunset I at Yarramundi I managed to keep the detail in the trees while still capturing the fluro orange in the sky

A fluro katydid!

The wet season is bringing life into the Top End. As new leaves are sprouting, many juvenile herbivorous insects such as this Slender Bush Katydid (Polichne sp.) are growing fast. I've watched this particular Katydid for a fortnight feeding on the same patch of leaves in monsoon forest.

When these Katydids are first born, they mimic Green Tree Ants, but slowly lose the shape of an ant as it moults. At this stage pictured they are an incredible fluro colour that almost looks fake! The next moult will see it lose this fluro colouration and begin to mimic a leaf more in colour.

Runnin' Down A Dream

Tom Petty

I felt so good, like anything was possible

Hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes

The last three days the rain was unstoppable

It was always cold, no sunshine

Yeah, runnin' down a dream

That never would come to me

Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads

Runnin' down a dream

I rolled on, the sky grew dark

I put the pedal down to make some time

There's something good waitin' down this road

I'm pickin' up whatever's mine

I'm runnin' down a dream

That never would come to me

Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads

Runnin' down a dream

Yeah, I'm runnin' down a dream

That never would come to me

Workin' on a mystery, goin' wherever it leads

I'm runnin' down a dream

Knackered / wrecked from walking. First time properly out with the camera and all the gear this morning in a fair while, and this genius decided it would be a good idea to go for a 9km round trip hike, starting at 5am.

It rained, it stopped, it rained, it stopped and went on like that for a while. We got to the shoot location at 6am, which was what we had planned anyhow, and it gave us a bit of time to find this composition in the dark (The headlamps weren't much help tbh).

Anyhow, as the sun started to break the horizon, we noticed all these fluro tops darting around the tops of the cliffs. About 10 or so lads who we found out later were a running club from a town furthur down the coast, had decided to jog right into our shot, and take a few selfies.

I must admit I had the shits at first, but looking at the images on the back of the camera, they gave a great sense of scale to the shot, as I was shooting with a 10-20 super wide lens, and that waterfall and cliffs were enormous, so the lads fitted in well to show the enormity of the location.

We had a good chat and a great laugh later, and they were a great bunch.

We also met another great tog at the location with his daughter. Always good to catch up David Marriott.

Thanks to Richard for joining me this morning. We had been planning to go here for about 3 or so years. Great morning mate.

Hope you like "Runnin' Down A Dream"

Cheers, Mike

Landies and Gentleman - Let me present Reality #15 - This micro-world was once perfectly balanced, until we introduced a creature called man; It is now overrun with them.

We've tried introducing natural disasters, disease and war, but these creatures just can't be controlled.

We're going to nuke this experiment tomorrow - I think that's 2012 in human time.

Had another adventure in the Jeep last weekend and got this shot at a little place in the middle of nowhere called Gaeta. It's more of a locality than a place but what an incredible place it is, pretty dry at the moment but it won't take much rain to turn it fluro green.

This is Fagrifoss on the Geirlandsá River. The waterfall is just off the F206 heading back to Kirkjubæjarklaustur from Laki, South Iceland.

It's easy to see that conditions were not that good - visibility had come down to a couple of hundred meters with mist and rain.

Thought about a long exposure but it wasn't worth it. Pity as it really is a very lovely waterfall even by Icelandic standards. Also in mono as it's time to take a break from all the fluro green of the Lakagígar :-)
