We got to the beach a bit late and well after the sun set we were still shooting. This was the first shoot I had ever done with my new D700 and could never have imagined shooting in such poor lighting conditions with my old D80, but Chris wanted to eek out just a few more poses if possible and I was ready to push the D700 to its limits.
It was nearly dark when I took this photo and yet, even in the JPEG right out of the camera, it has somehow found light. Unfortunately, it also had a LOT of noise and was VERY dark still yet.
To salvage this picture (because I was very happy with the pose) I started off in Lightroom 3.0 and after jacking up the exposure 1.80 stops (I normally never push past 1 extra stop) and adding some brightness, I went straight for the luminance noise reduction slider. It worked WONDERS. I highly recommend Lightroom 3.0 for this feature alone!
After some spot healing and a warming photo filter mask, I think I came away with a beautiful and very usable (albeit at a reduced resolution fidelity) shot. Next time I'll simply make sure we get to the beach sooner!

Family photo with Keith Conroy who was visiting. The caravan was home and was parked in the what became the caravan park at Fishery Falls but at that time was the Main Road camp. Lynda was nursing a cat (as usual), Johanne got whatever the joke was, Bill had a stubby (as usual), Val is in front of Bil and behind Allen, Keith Conroy had hands on hips and Billy was flexing ?
The photo was probably taken by Pat Carver. The picture was taken about 3 months before Christine was born. 1970.
State Senator Mae Flexer, along with State Representatives Christine Randall and Danny Rovero, was on hand at the Senior Resources Agency on Aging Northeast Healthy Living Expo held at the H.H. Ellis Technical High School in Killingly. Approximately 300 people attended to gather information from more than four dozen vendors on topics ranging from chiropractors and circulatory care to hearing aids, breast health, nutrition, insurance, assisted living, flu shots and legal services. If one can't infer from its behavior, this Great egret was just landing as I took this shot. I just barely avoided clipping the feet in this shot, and even if I did, it seems to only be a few pixels lost. I do like the wing position, and how the bird resembles a human flexing their muscles.

This was an accidental adventure - we were supposed to go to Scarborough on Sunday but had a change of plans so I had a chance to check out Comicpalooza on Sunday. This was a first for me - I had never been to a Comic Con before and didn't know what to expect. It turned out better than I thought. A lot of cool booths and workshops - plus great photo ops!! I could get addicted to these in the future!

Relaxed and flexed
