Using a small plastic fishtank with black background, flash above (yong nuo triggers) with 2 x 500w work lamps at the corners. Get fresh cream, add food colours/dyes, get a small syringe and you are set. Shutter sync max speed of 1/200s, ISO100 and variable aperture (ETTR) and see what happens.
A lot of Lightroom manipulation especially changing hue/saturation and luminance. In PS, duplicate layer, command T, flip horizontal, move to align for symmetry, layer mask with gradient for reflection. Crop and flatten. clean up any bubbles and have full black background, Flip vertical and voila!
Simple cleanup but need to do it regularly as the water gets pretty dirty quickly.
Improvements
-:short/sharp quirts and shots quickly => need to shoot at the same time as pushing the syringe.
- stronger colours... have bought Liquidex inks which are intense but cleanup will be tricky ie not in the kitchen sink
- thinner syringe ie with thick needle might also be better
- better angle for side lighting as the shot was dark underneath.
The lighting on the ball is still bugging me, but I think it works slightly better on this version. Gives me an excuse to upload another anyway ;-)
Though the name is a little higher than I would have liked, with it not being completely in the darker area of the ball, it seems to stand out a little more.
Far from perfect and something I will have another go at sometime :)

these are also my first two shots from iphone.
Second attempt at off camera flash with 7d. Black background seems to be much harder than white and I had to play with the levels in Lightroom to avoid shadows. Two flashes - 430 EX II as fill flash at 3 o'oclock and one Yn 568 at 7 oclock and elevated. Had to hide the 7d pre flash as it was causing a reflection.

A throwback to one of the most beatiful fish I kept - the filament barb. As seen here, adult males develop a more intense colour pattern than females and exhibit noticeable tubercules on the head when in spawning condition - when I first saw this I thought they had developed a sickness haha!
Picture from 2006 from Logo Park, Tenerife. Added a little blue. Since I photograph so much of the obove nature I thought it would be fun to present something a little different from the below nature , hehe.
