Traitor Claimer, FN-2199, TR-8R, whatever... In my mind, his name will always be Competent Trooper!
This scene was pure eye candy. It would've been nice if the Stormtrooper had more lines to exchange with Finn as they fought, but at least the end of the fight was very satisfactory!
If you're interested to see the before-after effects, you can see it here and my super cheap photo studio set up here.
And can anyone spot the special character cameo in this photo?
I put off uploading this shot for a long time because I never felt satisfied with it. My friend Mark and Taka said it looked alright so I guess that was good enough.
It was refreshing to see competent and lethal Stormtroopers in a Star Wars movie, wasn't it? A lot of people uploaded their version of FN-2199 whipping out his electified tonfa to the internet because it was such a cool moment. In my opinion, however, what was more badass than just spinning a baton around was when he abandoned his shield and perfectly functional gun, throwing them to either side. A normal Stormtrooper doesn't just choose to make a killing personal by electing hand-to-hand combat. I haven't seen anyone make this moment before so I was hoping to be the first.

Kylo Ren got another tantrum that led to the fact that the places around these two First Order Stormtrooper began to fall apart. The only thing they had left in a pocket, was the escape route away from the scene.
This is a part of the small series I did earlier this month. This scene here is the second photograph for the series. I'm uploading them in reverse order just because I want them to show up in my stream in a proper way. I'm still working on the first one, and hopefully I can show it to you later.
For me, it suits very well to the story told so far, that there are individuals among the Stormtroopers. I like it very much, it gives me room to play with around the original story.
Kylo Ren got another tantrum that led to the fact that the places around these two First Order Stormtrooper began to fall apart. The only thing they had left in a pocket, was the escape route away from the scene... but oh no, there's a huge pylon, that got down a second ago blocking the way! Will they be able to jump over it, like in the movies...
Make sure you check out the follow-up for this scene which is in fact a shot taken about 3-5 seconds later.
This particular scene was easy to pick from the session. I think particles around a fallen pylon looks really like it got down just a sec ago. I guess, it makes the whole scene a more alive.
- "Now. You just keep your mouth shut and do as I say!"
- "..but, there's a K-k-ylo Ren..."
- "There's nobody, you just keep your back glued on that pylon."
- "O-kay.."
This idea came to my mind other day, a pretty quickly after I did my first scene with the two First Order Stormtroopers and Kylo Ren last week. I'm a bit fond to this game, where the boss is trying to locate the staff with no success. In my opinion, it suits perfectly on a theme!
I was going to do this for the empire....but after I done it....I think it fits better in the first order....
- "Di-did you hear that?"
- "What, what to hear now what, what?!"
- "That little rustle sound, did you felt it?"
- "No. No I didn't. We're just a two of us here. There's nobody else here"
- "I dunno about that. I feel like someone is watching me..."

I've been recently finding myself photographing a new minifigs from the new Star Wars movie. I have already promised myself for not to pursue on a new things and stick with the Original Trilogy, but then I saw this new Lego set featuring almost all the key figures plus pretty nice vignette from the new movie. So, here's a trio you've might seen, if you have recently visited on a movie theatre near you.
I couldn't resisted to upload this as this turned out to have a pretty nice cinematic feel and those figs feel like they are really having a discussion I described above. Also, I was playing with a whole new way of lighting the set-up, so basically this is an outtake or just a test to explore new things.
An leftover from the another session. I thought to post this first as it has certain elements that works for me visually. I personally like how he is coming out from the darkness like that! Also, I really like this simplicity and black and white drama, which makes this a bit cinematic, in my opinion. You tell me!
Also, on May 25, 1977, in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars premiered in theaters. Can't believe, it's 40 years!
As silly it may sound, Kylo Ren did a little exercise drills for his crew and he supervised that everything went as planned. He was.. eh, is the boss, after all. You simply cannot step on his toes, and if you did, you got yourself a little punishment. This is Kylo, a commander full of emotion. He claims to be strong but things he do are quite the opposite.
Uh, seriously. As silly it sounds, this is all true. Some started to worship him even more, but eventually they saw, he was no good and people on started basically to avoid him on the Starkiller Base. There were actually hundreds of people on these exercise drills at first, but let me just count... there's only three weakest left in the end. This thing has no future!
Oh, and what about that little punishment I told you about... you simply cannot enter to his table on the Starkiller Cafeteria to sip hot beverages and gossip about future attacks!

Was anyone else reminded of that time Han shot at Vader in Empire Strikes Back? I have a theory that they wanted Vader to stop the laser bolt in midair but the special effects technology to do so just wasn't there. They opted for Vader's robot hand to take the blasts instead and shelved the idea until the special effects technology caught up.
I was talking about this shot with Takamichi Irie. Taka pointed out that Kylo Ren did not slip into a highly focused, meditative state while holding the laser bolt like how Yoda would when he was lifting an X-Wing out of the swamp. Kylo Ren was walking and talking the entire time he was holding that bolt. Apparently he's a multitasker. Taka didn't like it. I agree with Taka, but I still liked it. It was something I've never seen before and above all else, it was a simple idea that worked.
This shot was the hardest to create so far, and at the same time, my favorite Force Awakens shot. The set up and photoshoot were simple. Adding all the effects and adjusting the lighting was tough. For example, the tiny laser bolt reflections in the Stormtroopers' armor are totally artificial, which was not easy to create. I also don't have the official Poe minifig yet, so I substituted it with a Kili head, some black hair, Finn's torso, and some regular pants.
If you're interested, you can see my setup here. And a before/after comparison can be found here.
