Due to the petrol shortage in the UK, I have been forced to make some of my longer trips by train. While waiting on the station platform I took a few photos to pass the time.....

Thanks for visiting.

Take care out there.....

When I hear the word 'Luggage' I immediately think of Terry Pratchetts Discworld books.

This picture of 'Luggage' was taken at the National Railway Museum in York,.

The lucky passengers aboard this exclusively First Class train, the 11.18am Skipton - Carlisle summer 'Staycation Express', have the opportunity to be fed and watered in comfort while taking in the stunning Pennine scenery as they ride along the roof of England. A lordly experience indeed!

For many of the farmers up here - in a landscape generally only good enough to support livestock, yielding often thin margins with long working hours and enduring some of the toughest winters in the land - it's a rather different story. But then at least there's the compensation of not being hostage to frequent zoom meetings, or the boss hollering down the phone. Such is life.

This shot was taken from the exact same spot as the previous upload, and maybe even the same step on the Lunds footbridge. Typically the hint of sun present for 46115 had well and truly disappeared in the half-hour I sat waiting for this one, but I liked the composition enough to give it a go for the HST.

Closer inspection just top-left of the HST cab reveals what I believe to be Moorland Cottage (in white) stood on the lower slopes of Mossale Moor. The A684 from Sedbergh to Hawes undulates just in front of it. Just below the cottage, and to the right, can be seen the embankment that used to carry the railway line from Garsdale station to Hawes, Redmire and, ultimately Northallerton.

The circa 8 mile section of line from Garsdale to Hawes closed completely in 1959, and track eventually lifted, but proposals have been put forward recently to re-open the route, install a regular passenger service, and so link Hawes to the rest of the UK network once again. I'd certainly be up for a ride to the fleshpots (or more likely coffee shops) of this rather quaint Yorkshire Dales town.

For the record: 43058 nearest the camera with 43059 tailing.

First Class by Xu Bing as part of the Allure of Matter, Material Art from China exhibition at the Smart Museum on the South Side of Chicago.

As a vegan entering this room, I was immediately put off by what first appeared to be a huge tiger rug of some sort. What this actually is instead is an arrangement of cigarettes.

This is not at a zoo, but in the Pacific Ocean, near Monterey, Ca.

Getting close to flying, these birds breed in the winter these young owls were probably born in January.

Going after another date.

Yes, it is mine...you know how you buy that piece of clothing in a foreign country because it looks so right there but on returning home you realize you will never wear it.

Well one year I was in London in January when Harrods had their crazy clearance sales, and the hat was just so fascinating. The next day the reality of packing it for the return trip hit me and I finally had to give up and wear it home.

This is where it all paid off. While I was waiting to board, the gate counter called me up and asked if I would mind being bumped to FIRST CLASS...not Business, but FIRST CLASS. Would I mind??? Well what an eye opener to see how the privileged travel. Most of my fellow first classer's were a rock band and their leggy blonde girlfriends, but it didn't interfere with my best flight ever (and I have been flying internationally since I was 7). It had to be the HAT! So every now and then I pull the hat from the back closet and dream about being bumped to first class again (which of course has never repeated)...hmm maybe I should start wearing it for all my flights.

Thank you so much for your visit!

This is a Red-shouldered Hawk, the photo taken near Loomis, CA which is close to Sacramento.

From an unusually clean plane window.

The Grand Hotel on northern Michigan's Mackinac Island has a long and storied history. It has been the scene for not only an upscale vacation, but also for political events and the setting for several popular movies. It has slowly modernized over the years, but not too much as to ruin its old school charm. It is meticulously maintained and if you are willing to shell out nearly $500/night, you'll have a "grand" time.
