When the weather outside is frightful, there is nothing more comforting than curing up beside a fireplace...

This has obviously been a ruin for some time, considering the size of the trees growing in it. Great location though, right by the Hudson. Plenty of fireplaces.

The Abbot's Kitchen is described as "one of the best preserved medieval kitchens in Europe". The 14th century octagonal building is supported by curved buttresses on each side leading up to a cornice with grotesque gargoyles. Inside are four large arched fireplaces with smoke outlets above them, with another outlet in the centre of the pyramidal roof. The kitchen was attached to the 80 feet (24 m) high abbot's hall, although only one small section of its wall remains.

My home-made fireplace in my garden .... before I got thrown out on to the street by a vicious and thoroughly nasty relative - on 07/04/08 so this is no more. My friends and myself used to love to sit around it well into the night, talking and singing and having a wee drink of something. We used to cook stuff as well - it was lovely!!! Note the section of a locomotive fire bar found by the railway track! Happy days!

Just for the guys this fireplace contains plenty of animations!

“It's the national addiction: warmth on chilly winter nights, innocence on Saturday afternoons, the essence of hearth, home and blissful abandon.”

Today was quite chilly here in the Bay Area . . . they said it was in the low to mid 40's but when evening came, the temperature dropped back down . . . it was a perfect evening to get out "them" Duraflame logs. I would say sitting in front of my fireplace to feel the warmth and listening to the crackling of the log has to be one of my simple pleasures. For me it creates an atmosphere of coziness and comfort . . . which can warm my heart and soul . . .. OK . . I'm getting a bit melodramatic here, but you know what I mean. LOL! ;-) Besides, it makes wrapping all those presents all worthwhile . . . so come on over and warm your heart at the same time, you can help me wrap . . . :-)

My greatest pleasure at the moment!

It was a long battle to convince the family that a real fire would be worth the hard work...what hard work?!

It is so nice to have this on during the winter months. There is something so magical about a dancing fire. Happy Thanksgiving!

A fireplace in England large enough for two benches so you can sit inside the fireplace. You don't see that everyday.
