At the time when this photo was taken it was on the run at Kirkby Fire Station.

A shot from the 1993 Northern Bus Running Day, with a former Ribble RE, painted in a special red livery for services to Hillsborough - although we were some way off Hillsborough during this photo stop on the 208 back to Dinnington, towards the end of the event.

Headed out to the Windsor and Richmond area to see if I could get some shots of the mop up of the fires. I grew up at Penrith and spent lots of time in the areas affected riding my bike around and working as well.
Fortunately no one was taken by the fires and very little property damage occurred. I believe some fire fighters were injured, hopefully they are on the mend.
As an Australian, its impossible to escape the specter of bush fires (forest fires for some of you). Every summer we are bombarded with them at an increasing frequemcy it seems to due a combination of factors including poor land use planning, reduced hazard reductions burning and an increasing number of arson attacks.
I think seeing the fire up close would be terrifying. The images I shot are only small fires lit by fire fighters to reduce the amount of fuel load around houses. A real fire front I am yet to see. Not sure if I want to either.

I really wasn't happy with this...it's for a 4 year old fireman sam fan!! so I am sure he will be delighted...his Auntie who collected it, love it! so thats all that counts ~ Plus apparently little Oliver had been poorly so his kiddie party had to be postponed, they were still having a family party....so hopefully his cake cheered him up a little x
But i had terrible trouble with it, It is from Debbie Browns book...I didn't like my joining of the sides onto the front, so i decided to over ice the front with extra fondant...the sides aren't really as high as they should be, so added extra height! which doesn't look to hot! the ladder broke! and the wheels are just all wrong....and as for fireman sam...well, we won't go there haha
it was just one of those cakes we are pleased once they are collected!

This unit was supplied new to Scotland North Eastern Area, and is known to have served at North Anderson Drive, Aberdeen.
This type of appliance was the mainstay of most British Fire Brigades in the 1950's and 1960's.
It is fitted witth a B80 straight eight Rolls Royce engine, and both the pump and vehicle were made by Dennis at their Guildford factory
This is the type of engine used by the cartoon character Fireman Sam
The exhibit was part of a temporary display of vehicles of the rescue services and was kindly loaned by Mrs. Ireland of Worcestershire
