That's right,it's an old firehouse. It's the old home of fire Engine 31 located at 87 Lafayette St in lower Manhattan. The Flemish Revival structure was built in 1895 by architectural firm Napoleon Le Brun & Sons.Napoleon Le Brun was an American architect known for his church building work in Philadelphia. The utility firehouse was decommissioned in 1972 by the NYFD,but was made a historic landmark a year before.DCTV and the Chinese-Planning Council purchased the building in 1983 for 400,000 dollars and did additional restoration. Now that's what you call a fire-house because it looks Just like a house, and a pretty stunning one at that.I was just as surprised at the beauty of the building as the the guy in the link when I stumbled upon it yesterday. Also,I have info on the "Angels over us"shot down some,if you're interested. nyfd.com/history/ghost_story.html daytoninmanhattan.blogspot.com/2010/05/napoleon-le-bruns-...

The city of San Angelo, Texas is scattered with statues of rams throughout the town. Each ram has its own unique paint scheme and accompanying decorations. This ram is a resident outside the fire department.

Camera: Olympus OM-PC with RMC Tokina 28-70mm zoom lens. The OM-PC was the most advanced of the consumer-grade OM cameras, and this one was gifted to me by a friend who used to use it decades ago--when all photography was film photography.

Down the street from my place is the local firehouse which I pass by almost very day. Nice to know they are not far in case my place goes up in flames which is highly unlikely considering I live in a modern building built to contemporary fire code.

The Amish. Their closed and little-known world, along with strict rules of conduct, generate curiosity and a desire to learn more about this "forbidden" or hidden way of life. The Amish are a unique example of the preservation of a traditional culture and way of life over centuries, which is of ethnographic and historical interest.

Their existence without the internet, smartphones, and cars in the 21st century is a striking contrast to a globalized, technologically dependent world. This evokes wonder and a desire to understand how this is possible.

Nostalgia for simplicity: For many, Amish life evokes simpler times, subsistence farming, strong family ties, and a strong sense of community, something lacking in today's individualistic society.

A curiosity familiar to many brought me to this unique place. Today, Here is my photo essay from the Amish village located at the Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum.

This is a shot of Lynn Smith, assistant director for the production of MY THREE ANGELS that we did at the Firehouse (Denton Community) Theater in 1978. I worked as stage manager on this production, and you can find a number of my backstage production shots on this web site. This was shot existing light on Trix-Pan (400ASA) film. Taken is very low light, the negatives were thin, and the prints somewhat light, but it worked. The brownish stain on the photo is my fault. I was doing my own darkroom, and in the film technology, one had to put the film and then the paper through a developer, a stop bath, and a fixer. Evidently, I didn't wash this print thoroughly enough, and the fixer stained and damaged it. If any of my fans out there are still using film and doing their own dark room, be ye warned: WASH THOSE FILMS AND PRINTS! Note: MY THREE ANGELS was performed on Broadway and on television, and it was the basis of the film WE'RE NO ANGLES with Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray, and Peter Ustinov. You can find out more about this production, as well as the history of the theater in Donna L. Clevinger's book. If memory serves, Lynn took over the main role in AUNTIE MAME, when the lead actress quit. She pulled it off. John Lee--a friend from MY THREE ANGELS--was playing the butler, and he jinxed the drink mixer to see what Lynn would do during the scene--in front of a live audience. Without missing a beat, she told him to take it to the kitchen and get something else.
