Another sighting on the bird count ... though not in the area assigned to me. This fire was in my neighbourhood, and knocked the power out around 3:30 in the morning. The chirping smoke detector and my anxious cat woke me up, I put my phone on battery saving mode as it hadn't charged fully. The phone "automatically silenced" my alarm, so the count was a bit later than planned1 The fire was in an unused former commercial building.

1-2 weeks later they were still putting out fires. You could see plumes of smoke for months after 9/11 happened.
Fort Apache guys are from White River, Arizona. More BIA firemen. Fine young guys and they're probably having the time of their lives. Folks around here think firefighters are walking on water these days.
