An exceptional street artist at work in one of Melbourne's better known street art walls. And the first one who I have seen in action being sensible enough to wear breathing protection while at work.

“When I finish dressing before a night out and have put on all the accessories, I usually look at myself in the mirror long and hard and then end up removing something. Whether it's a belt, bracelet or a bauble, less is always more.” – Dame Joan Collins (English actress, author and columnist).

Like Joan Collins, I am a great fan of jewellery, especially if it contains either diamonds or sapphires – the latter being my birthstone – however, like her, I also know that less is always more. It was something I was taught as a child by my grandmother and have never forgotten it. For the theme for “Looking Close on Friday” for the 12th of June of “bracelet on white background” originally left me wondering what I could photograph. I have bought, inherited and been given a great many pieces of jewellery over the years: brooches, pins, necklaces, but I don’t have very many bracelets as I don’t wear them. In fact, I only have two bracelets in my possession. One is a very old and rare Vulcanite (early form of plastic) mourning bracelet which is extremely fragile considering it comes from the 1890s. The other is the bracelet which I used in this photograph. It was given to me on my birthday some years ago by my mother. It is a Hawaiian souvenir. Bought in the early years of the Twentieth Century it must have been a keepsake originally bought by someone quite wealthy, for the bracelet is made from hand made sterling silver links that are patterned with flowers on the reverse, and each one of these delicate blossoms is hand carved from shell before being affixed to each link with a sterling silver rivet. You will notice some small bits of black on the three flowers you can see the reverse of. Although worn by time and quite literally from ware, they are the remnants of artist’s name who carved the flowers. It is a dainty piece of jewellery, and one of the few American pieces I own. I hope that you like my choice for the theme this week, and that it makes you smile!

The annual Liverpool Santa Dash event marked its 20th festive race in the city, with thousands of people donning their beards, hats and red (and blue) suits to race along the 5k route around the city centre in support of Claire House Children's Hospice. It is predicted that around 8,000 people took part in the charity event.

the course took runners through the Royal Albert Dock and onwards into the heart of the city and then on to the finish line outside Liverpool Town Hall.

After a rainy start to the day, the sun eventually came out for the runners, who made their way around the course dressed in a range of outfits. While most opted for the Santa outfit, others came as elves and there was even a grumpy Grinch in the mix.

The BTR Liverpool Santa Dash welcomes everyone—whether walking, jogging, or running. Wheelchair users and even tiny Santas in prams or pets are encouraged to join.

Best wishes of Happy New Year, hoping the world will find a way to stop craziness.

Buon Anno a tutti, sperando che il mondo trovi un modo per fermare la pazzia dilagante.

A view of the new Westquay Watermark building in Southampton, looking towards the swimming pool, both buildings with wavelike features to acknowledge they are built on reclaimed land, the sea once lapping the base of the city walls.

The final parts of the building work are due to be finished mid February, when the new cinema will open. The small strip of land remaining between the Watermark and the walls to the left of this picture is being paved and landscaped (see image in first comment box) and will be used for outdoor performances. People can look down both from the walls and from the balcony walkway alongside the Watermark, seen here.

Every day there are about two dozen security men patrolling in yellow jackets, making sure nothing untoward happens before the building is handed over.

I had heard about a technique quite a while ago and I have been meaning to try it one day, it consists of taking an object, photographing it multiple times all around it and then blending the layers in varying opacity in photoshop.

This is my first attempt - 12 photos taken around this nice little pot of lavender, blended in PS. I've then added some textures to finish the look. The left-hand image is my base image or starting point as a comparison.

The technique can be used on outdoor objects as well like trees, statues, fountains, buildings etc, etc...
