The Albert Cuyp Market is a street market in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on the Albert Cuypstraat between Ferdinand Bolstraat and Van Woustraat, in the De Pijp area of the Oud-Zuid district of the city. The street and market are named for Albert Cuyp, a painter from the 17th century.
The market began as an ad hoc collection of street traders and pushcarts. By the beginning of the 20th century, this had become so chaotic that in 1905, the city government decided to set up a market, at first only held on Saturday evenings. In 1912, the market became a daytime market open six days a week. Originally the street was accessible while the market was taking place, but more recently the street has been completely closed off to traffic during market hours.
The product selection at the market varies from the traditional range of vegetables, fruit and fish to clothing and even cameras. There are many products sold that are of interest to the city's residents of Surinamese, Antillean, Turkish, and Moroccan origin, giving the market and neighbourhood a strong multicultural feel.
The market is the busiest in all of the Netherlands and is reputedly the largest daytime market in Europe. It is also an important tourist attraction. The famous Dutch Stroopwafels are prepared fresh here.
Also popular are the many ethnic restaurants and bars that are found behind the market stalls.

Usually the muskrats hurry away once they see me, but on this particular afternoon this youngster let me photograph it from close range while it was feeding on the seed heads in the grass. For some reason it's always fascinating to me to see the tiny fingernails on these rodents.
I like to keep my fingernails neatly trimmed, and I recently misplaced my nail clippers. But it hasn't been a problem. I've simply been using my trusty old wire cutters instead. ;-)

Cleo likes a good massage, even on her nose, but only from people with longer fingernails, like my niece Natalie. The grumpy kitty never looks happier than in these moments. HTT ! :)

Taking care of his fingernails --probably before a game of chess -- with some good tobacco & nice beer so as to match up with his companion's fingernails, all in open sunbath and fresh air of course...
Another one from the archives I rejected a few years ago, I think I wasn't happy with my (awful) fingernails.. Anyway, a quick blast with Lr colour toning and here it is..
Almond blossoms were gone and the crunchy sour fruit broke under her teeth. She picked the bigger ones first not wanting to lose any chance of eating all she could before they hardened into their shells. The fruit yielded some juice. She licked her lips after the traces of each drop.
He once called her his own almond blossom. He even used to order this special perfume from an unknown brand in Germany, White Flowers, it was called, for her, just so she could embody the blossoms.
She’d wear it for him and it drove him crazy thinking she wore a perfume that travelled miles across continents to be in her creases for his joy. For his pleasure, only. She’d laugh as she sprayed the bottle a bit here and a bit there, unsure what spot to choose or how much to spray. With time she gained experience and confidence. She realized that time she’d forgotten to wear the thing and had sprayed herself with some other scent and he went as crazy. And the time when she wore too much and also the time she wore too little, even when she mixed them up. He would be as crazy. After a while she wouldn’t even laugh as she sprayed it or any other perfume on her. He always took credit for her natural perfume. Recently, when she wanted to wear it for her own joy, she’d choose a remote spot like the crease of her thigh or the back of her knee.
The thrill came when she went to see “him” and last minute, she had this whisper in her mind, “Wear the almonds! Wear his perfume!”
She paused a second. Her fingers reached the counter top where she kept her few bottles. She watched her long fingernails scratching against this bottle and then the other. She followed the shadows traveling around the countertop in between her fingers and the marble, among the crystals, the bottles. She was letting the thought brew in her mind. She had a faint smile on her face as she listened to the sound of her thought.
Her eyes sparkled as she opened the drawer and took the small bottle out, pulled the lid back and first sprayed it gently on her wrists, a drop… She waited for her nostrils to swell with the joy and start fluttering in ecstasy. She closed her eyes and surrendered her soul to the temptations of the devil.
It was time to rekindle her affair with the bottle…
