While the landscape is now characterized by a somewhat uniform brown, there are occasional bursts of color yet to be found...mainly in the form of young oaks who seem to exhibit a greater exuberance in the season than their elders who have retired for the year. In some ways, analogous to the human species, I reckon....

A great egret landing on a very windy day. The approach was nice, but the landing was awful. It didn't help that he tried landing on a branch at a 45 degree angle. Kane County, Illinois

With a measly 105mm lens, I think I may have been too close to this majestic deer in Richmond Park. He showed me his dentures, I got the hint and stepped away from his space.

After a while when he got used to my presence we had a great photo session together. I'm pretty sure he wanted to apologise for his earlier bad manners. All is forgiven and I'll be back in a couple of months during rutting with a longer telephoto.

Just a combination of a couple of my pics as a PS exercise

Final preparation for an all day rail fan trip. On a rail siding in Edon, Ohio. Berkshire class steam locomotive number 765.

This photograph was taken on October 1st, shortly after 7:00 a.m. on a rail siding in Edon, Ohio. The engine crew told me that they brought the engine onto this siding around midnight. They stayed with the engine all night to tend the fire box and keep the steam up in order to be ready for the all-day trip. On this particular day, the train carried over 380 passengers, running from Edon, Ohio to Hillsdale, Michigan.
