Inscription on the frontispiece of Reach for the Sky by Paul Brickhill 1958.

Presented to 'the boys and girls of Loquat Valley...' and signed Paul Brickhill.

The story of Douglas Bader, who lost both legs in an aviation accident, however with extraordinary determination, overcame the disability and flew fighters in World War II. He was captured by the Germans but survived to train others.

The Cadet version of the book for children.

Loquat Valley School is an Anglican Preparatory School located in the Sydney suburb of Bayview, founded in 1947 by the pioneer aviator and WW2 air veteran Sir Patrick Gordon Taylor and adopted his motto 'Aim High' .

Weathered Phantoms awaiting another mission from Danang. The configuration suggests the T-Bolts were performing MIGCAP missions, loaded with air-to-air missiles and extra tanks.

This statue always makes me think of Daedalus (and by extention "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man"), but it is really a tribute to a UVa student (James Rogers McConnell, a member of the Sevens) who was killed in the air, fighting in WWI. If you look, the subject is wearing a leather cap like WWI bombers wore, even though the rest of the statue is classical in design. This is one of my favorite things at the University... it's classic, thrilling, haunting, and so meaningful. The inscription reads "Soaring like an eagle to new heavens of valor and devotion."

Battle of Britain memorial flight, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and 73 years of USAF Occupation of RAF Mildenhall. Featuring the Red Arrows, KC-135 Stratotanker, C-130 Herculese and a handful of F-15 E fighter jets.

The multi-role Phantom II performed often in the air-to-ground role. Here, a 389th F-4 returns from a mission with empty bomb racks, in very difficult weather conditions.

Mark Carey's Star Wars action figure, which still smells very bit as good now as it did back in the day (TIE Fighter Pilots are made from a certain plastic that has a very distinctive aroma!). This was a long exposure shot so as to pick up the detail, but without the interference of the flash which was making the figure appear green.
