Production photos by Debbie Robbins from Fidget Feet's marvellous new show The Elves and the Shoemaker which comes to An Grianán in December 2013

Meet Herman and Daisy,

They want to make shoes for your feet.

But they owe so much money they barely can eat.

Don’t worry though, because magic is always just around the corner. The Elves are here to help! And sometimes the answers are right above your head.

Fidget Feet’s The Elves & The Shoemaker is immersive storytelling with music and aerial circus for children aged between 4-8yrs and their families.

There is no stage, you will join them inside their workshop and actually help them to make the best pair of shoes ever made. This show is supported by The Arts Council, The Backstage Theatre, Longford and The Source Arts Centre, Thurles.

Herman, Daisy and the Elves need you!

4pm performance only: You can fly too!

After the main performance the children of the audience will have the opportunity to fly. There will be a short, thirty minute, aerial workshop supervised by the Fidget Feet cast and crew where children will learn some basic moves and lifts on Aerial Cocoons. This is an extremely fun, easy and safe introduction to Aerial for young children.

Dogs tend to guard bones and other objects that they value. Every dog training book I've read has a section on modifying guarding behavior.

When we hand our dogs their bones, each takes off to her corner to protect it from the others. None of our three girls has growled at us over bones, but let one walk into another's vicinity and the snarling commences.

Rabbit has been the growliest of the three. She really didn't even want to be in the same room with another dog when she had a new bone. It's probably her history of abuse as well as "small dog syndrome". You usually expect the smallest dog to be the most ardent defender of her treasures. Fair enough, I think.

After I had taken Mouse (and her bone) out to the pasture a couple of weeks ago, we gave Fidget and Rabbit theirs. As expected, each dog retreated to her private corner.

Then an odd thing happened. A minute or two later, Rabbit came back into the room with her bone, walked over next to Fidget, dropped down and began chewing it. After two years, she evidently came to the conclusion -- a correct one, as it turned out -- that Fidget wasn't going to steal her bone. Since then, they lie next to each other chewing their bones peaceably.

It's nice to watch the two of them side by side. Given the chance, even an abused seven-year-old dog has the capacity to grow and trust,

Suspended in the air 40 metres above your head, watch a love story unfold that reaches passed this life and into the next. Aerial circus, music and story telling of all kinds come together to make Wired & Free, a show where the world is our stage.

In the past four years Wired and Free has been performed in front of over 62,000 spectators all over Ireland, Australia and the UK, including a jaw dropping show at the prestigious Glastonbury Music Festival.

Wired & Free was commissioned by The Donegal Bay and Bluestack Arts Festival and the Donegal County Council in Oct 2005.

lucky to capture such a relatively sharp image hand held at 1/30 with the 70400G lens. It helped that the birds did not move at all, that I had a momentary lull in my own movement, and that overexposing and then correcting removed much of the grain.. note the movement blur on the leaves. The next frame in the sequence baby moved its head and... see below

I just found out that Joanne Callander, Fidget's creator, also designed the Only Hearts Club dolls. They appear to be similarly-sized so I now have an inexpensive source of clothes for her.

This is the only OHC outfit I had on hand. I originally bought it for whomever it might fit. I shortened the jeans for Betsy McCall so they are now clamdiggers on Fidget. And I don't remember what I did with the shoes.

The lightning was very tough to work with, but I think I did okay with this one.

Doggie: Fidget

These photos lead up to the picture of Fidget and Mouse accepting Irie into their flock. The sequence starts just after we put Irie down on the pasture, continuing for 1.4 seconds.

Mouse and Fidget have to check Irie out, presumably to make sure she is not a threat to the other birds. Notice that they don't use their teeth.

At the end, Mouse tucks Irie under her chin and noses Turkey-neck aside, perhaps trying to protect him from the as-yet-unidentified newcomer.

Fidget and Mouse have done this dozens of times and have never injured a bird.

DETAILS ABOUT THE QUILT:

The quilt is made up of 5" x 5" squares of fabrics that have different textures. They all are either blue, green, purple, and/or gold in color (so there's some unity or color scheme). ... See More

I had my dad pick out pictures that were meaningful to him. He did this process twice - the second time finding some more pictures that he forgot to include the first time.

As I looked through them, I noticed that he didn't have some that I KNOW would have been meaingful. Asked him if he wanted to include (for example) the one of him with his steer. "YES!" he said. "But I couldn't find it."

So we went through one of his old scrapbooks together and any picture he stopped to talk about and share a good memory about, I took out. We came to a picture of his mom and dad when they were much younger and in a loving embrace (probably in their 40s). All he managed to get out before the tears started coming were, "They loved each other so much."

I scanned all the pictures he chose plus the ones we found together in the scrapbook. Put the images into a Microsoft Word document making sure that the pictures were no larger than 4" x 4". Printed them on fabric that has a heat-set backing (got it at Office Max).

Ironed the pictures onto 5" x 5" white cotton fabric squares so they stand out from the other quilt squares.

Sewed all the squares and rows together. Hand sewed some "fidget items" onto 1 square in every other row. For example, in one row are 2 gold angels (they have a shank on the back - like buttons) to represent his parents. In another row are 5 buttons to represent 5 people in his family.

Assembled and sewed the quilt together - the top, fiberfill middle (didn't want to use wool like I normally do just in case the quilt needs to be washed), and soft fleece backing (another texture - and the part that will be next to his body).

I secured all 3 layers together by putting yarn where the squares meet and knotting it. Not only does the yarn ensure the fiberfill stays in place, but adds another element of "fidget items" - things he can touch and manipulate as the disease progresses.

A Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre artist performing above the crowd in the Limerick St Patrick's day parade.

More than 80,000 spectators soaked up the spring sunshine and carnival atmosphere of Ireland’s largest regional St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Limerick City today (Thursday, 17 March 2016).

Parade Grand Marshal, local actor Myles Breen, led more than 4,000 participants from 100 different community groups, companies, bands and sports clubs from across Limerick and Ireland for the parade which is organised by Grooveyard Productions on behalf of Limerick City and County Council and Limerick 2020.

This year's theme was 'Commemorate' celebrating Limerick's legacy, its people and its places. Among the participants in this year's Parade were pop duo Jedward and Fidget Feet Ariel Dance Company which performed a crane show over the city centre streets. Meanwhile, street arts company Spraoí brought their spectacular Stag Show to Limerick's main thoroughfares, Artastic and Spotlight Dance School provided a show-stopping spectacle, and The Workhouse Studio thrilled the crowds with their giant puppet and a host of colourful costumes. Other parade participants included The Fanzini Brothers, Danger Boy, Outside the Box, Flying Wheels, Clown Noir and Passepartout along with a wide range of local performance groups.

The fabrics have different textures, and the pictures are ones that he picked out that are meaningful to him. The back is a very soft fleece.
