Detail of fiberglass fibers and bundles protruding from an edge of calcium-silicate pipe insulation material. Often with a higher heat-rating and a very similar appearance to asbestos magnesia insulation, this highly fibrous, vintage non-asbestos material was designed to compete with and eventually replace asbestos magnesia insulations.
The fiberglass material demonstrated above depicts a visually peculiar display of rather interestingly-shaped, straight, translucent fibers and bundles protruding throughout the insulation matrix; exhibiting characteristics somewhat unique, though not entirely exclusive for this material, such as: relatively uniform fiber width and straightness, cut bundle terminations, fiber elasticity, certain microscopic optical properties, etc.
A plant on the verge of shutting down, the Fiberglas plant is on it's final months of rail service, the crew on OSRX 8235 is in the process of finishing up spotting a load of clay underneath the silo and a load of lime underneath the canopy.
This is a photo of my reflection on the fiberglass hull of a fishing boat under construction that has been painted with high gloss black paint.
I first photographed this guy 17 years ago. The place was out of business then, as it is now. And the steer looks as good as ever. Here's to 17 more years of silent bovine observation.
PLEASE, NO invitations or self promotions, THEY WILL BE DELETED. My photos are FREE to use, just give me credit and it would be nice if you let me know, thanks.
The West Head Light marks the headland on the southern side of the western entrance to Barrington Passage. The white circular tower is 6.1 meters (20ft) tall, equipped with a fixed red light, and painted with two wide red horizontal bands.
Sometimes the random things that come rolling through your day make you just stop and smile. I saw this beautiful vintage ‘Vette as its occupants were out for a Sunday drive in Midtown Memphis.
I noticed this strip of fiberglass that had been washed up on False Harbour Beach, and held it up to be backlit by the evening sun.
Avez-vous soupçonné que ce n'est qu'un mannequin de fibres de verre ? Et oui tout le monde peut se tromper :-)
Did you suspect that it is just a fiberglass model ? And yes everybody can be wrong :-)
Another popular feature of the hotel is the white fiberglass ghost travelers dressed in period clothing, and still lovingly haunting the premises.
The station was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 14, 1982.[2] Beginning in 1984 the facility was renovated and converted from its primary use as a railroad station to a festival marketplace. The Indianapolis architecture firm of Woollen, Molzan and Partners was responsible for the restoration the station's historic shed, which reopened in 1986.[12] Union Station became a collection of restaurants, nightclubs, and specialty stores that included an NBC Store and a model train retailer. The eastern end of the former train platform area featured a large food court, plus several self-contained bars and nightclubs. Statues of individuals who might have been seen in the railroad station in older years were installed throughout the facility. A Crowne Plaza Hotel took up much of the western portion of the train shed, with twenty six of its rooms being housed within old Pullman cars.
The Romanesque Revival “head house”—the portion of the complex containing the clock tower and the massive, terrazzo-floored main entry, along Illinois Street—was completed in 1888. The two-block-long, two-story train shed, capable in its heyday of sheltering nine trains at a time, was added between 1916 and 1922. At its peak, the station handled some 200 trains daily.

Long abandoned Calcium Carbonate processing plant in the middle of nowhere in Beaver County, Utah. This is one of the most mysterious and baffling places I have explored. There are hundreds of unidentifiable concrete and fiberglass structures covering what looks to be at least a hundred acres or so. This place gives me a dystopian feeling and I can't help thinking about an older Science Fiction story by British Author J. G. Ballard. The story is "Good-by Eniwetok." The place certainly has the feeling evoked by Ballard in that story.
Kelmark Engineering was an American automotive specialty shop established in 1969 and based in Okemos, Michigan. It focused on high-performance custom V8 drivetrain swaps, the modification and production of rear and mid-engined cars, and custom-built turn-key automobiles (the Kelmark GT). Until 1986, Kelmark Engineering manufactured kits and complete, finished, turn-key vehicles which were either Volkswagen-based or built on tubular race car-type frames. The outfit gained its name from Russ Keller and Randy Markham, the two co-creators who started the operation. Up until at least 1989, the Kelmark GT was still available as a kit albeit the manufacturer was Kelmark Motors in Holt, Michigan. The cars are all "rare" models, but the Volkswagen-powered Kelmark GT was the most popular.
