The colours and patterns just don't match. Lady Bug should have found a different flower to land on :)

So, those of you who know me, know that I often wander off in the woods and hills for hours on end camera in hand. Unfortunately on this occasion I made every mistake imaginable, wrong kit, kit missing, wrong settings and rushing to catch the light.
At first glance, you may think I’m crazy. The image looks decent enough right? Look closer and I’ll list everything that went wrong with this excursion.
1 - Wrong lens. I have been working with one focal length lately as an exercise to improve composition. This scene would have been so much better on a wide angle, but I only had a 40mm Macro lens with me.
2 – No tripod. I decided to pack light one camera, one lens, no tripod. I normally take a full bags worth of kit on a hike
3 – I shot in Jpg instead of Raw. The previous night I had decided to check the shutter count on my Nikon D7200. For some reason this only works 9only ways I have found to do this) is to upload a jpg to an online service that can then tell you. Foolishly I forgot to change back to Raw before I went out the next day!
4 - Rushing the shot. As it was getting on in the afternoon, the sun was dropping really quickly. I was already on my way out of the woods when i spotted the scene. With the combination of falling light and wrong lens, I rushed to get an image as quickly as I could
While there’s nothing wrong with shooting in jpg format. It really doesn’t leave a lot of editing doors open for a final image. Especially when shooting directly into the sun in a scene like this one. So, I decided to publish this as to always remind me to check and double check everything in the future.
I'e decided I will be writing a blog post to go into more detail about my "faux pas" later this week
There is evidently a guy running around this area who thinks he is Batman. During the day he keeps his Bat Mobile in this makeshift Bat Cave. I think Alfred must have quit, because this is not very well appointed. It does have a refrigerator, however. The refrigerator keeps those libations cold for a quick pick me up to conjure the courage to fight criminals. There can’t be too many bad guys in this area. He might catch some slow farm equipment without one of those bright orange triangles on the back.
Also, he seems to be starting to grow some vegetation to screen the Bat Mobile from prying eyes ... like mine!
I think the plant in the foreground is Umbrella Plant (a swamp grass). In this image, the stems made me think of fireworks exploding. Camille is sitting on a stool under the window, inside.

Song based on a poem by Emily Dickinson:
"This Is My Letter to the World"
This is my letter to the world,
That never wrote to me,--
The simple news that Nature told,
With tender majesty.
Her message is committed
To hands I cannot see;
For love of her, sweet countrymen,
Judge tenderly of me!
I thought most of my old lenses had a gold PASSED sticker on. Turns out I had to have a good rummage to find this one on an old Minolta zoom. Resisted the urge to straighten it out and left it as it now appears.
Faux de Verzy. These trees are found in Champagne region of France and each have an amazing network of branches.

This place is an aesthetic annoyance for the neighborhood where it's located. It's only been empty for 8-9 years and it's falling apart because the owner added everything himself. It's actually much worse inside. It's still undeveloped after 4 years of new ownership.
