The University of Helmstedt, official Latin name: Academia Julia ("Julius University"), was a university in Helmstedt in the Duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel that existed from 1576 until 1810.
Founded by and named after Duke Julius of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel on 15 October 1576, the first university of the duchy and the first Protestant university of the northern Holy Roman Empire quickly became one of the largest German universities.
The university had four faculties for theology, law, medicine and philosophy including the seven liberal arts. The great auditorium, the Juleum Novum (image) was erected in 1592.
In the late 18th century, Helmstedt lost popularity to newer universities, such as the University of Göttingen. It was closed in 1810 on initiative of Johannes von Müller, director of public instruction in the Kingdom of Westphalia.

O papa Bento XVI anunciou nesta segunda-feira (11/02) , durante o consistório para a canonização de dois mártires, que vai se retirar de suas funções no dia 28 de fevereiro. Pouco antes, o Vaticano havia confirmado a informação às agências internacionais. "O papa anunciou que renunciará a seu ministério às 20 horas do dia 28 de fevereiro", disse o porta-voz da Santa Sé, Federico Lombardi, citado pela agência France Presse em um pronunciamento em latim.

Projeto do arquiteto Oscar Niemeyer foi inaugurada em 1970. Possui 40 metros de altura, formada por 16 colunas de concreto armado. O altar foi doado pelo Papa Paulo VI, que também abençoou a cruz metálica de 12 metros no topo do templo. Os vitrais são de autoria de Marianne Peretti. Acervo interno: Via Sacra, de Di Cavalcanti; esculturas três anjos, de Alfredo Ceschiatti e Dante Croce; réplicas da Pietà de Michelangelo e do Santo Sudário.

This Oscar Niemeyer project was inaugureted in 1970. It has sixteen columns of reinforced concrete, each 40-meters high. The altar was donated by Pope Paul VI, who also blessed the 12-meters metal cross on the top of the Cathedral. The stained glass side panels were designed by Marianne Peretti. Inside are such items as: Via Dolorosa, by Di Cavalcanti; three angels cast in aluminum alloy by Alfredo Ceschiatti and Dante Croce, and replicas of Michelangelo's Pietà and of the Holy Shroud of Turin.
