The oldest wife spoke, “Oh, don’t worry, dear. The other wives and I have multiple dresses suitable for dance and will lend them to you and your niece. We could even help fix your hair and make you look nice for troopers. It isn’t often we get travelers here at the fort.
“I don’t know what we can do about Victoria’s hair, it’s so short. Is that the style from out east?” one of the wives chimed in.
Lady V and Betty Lou enjoyed the impromptu fashion show the wives gave them. They were told that the army wives had packed these dresses when their respective husband was assigned to this post but never had many occasions to wear their finery. Lady V was very impressed by the fabrics and the fine workmanship of the dresses.
