Fantasy Canyon is an area composed of unique erosional features located about 27 miles south of Vernal, in northeastern Utah. Even though the area is only about 10 acres in size, it contains some of the most unique geologic features in the world. The site was officially documented by early explorer and paleontologist Earl Douglass, who recorded the area by other names such as “The Devil’s Playground” and “Hades Pit.”

Fantasy Canyon is a Bureau of Land Management-managed area located about 27 miles (43 km) south of Vernal, in Uintah County, Utah. Even though the area is only about 10 acres (40,000 m2) in size, it contains some of the most unusual geologic features in the world. The site was officially documented by early explorer and paleontologist Earl Douglass, who recorded the area by other names such as “The Devil’s Playground” and “Hades Pit.” He published photographs of this area in a 1909 publication called “The Columbian Magazine.”
The rocks of Fantasy Canyon, quartzose sandstones, were deposited during the Eocene Epoch. They date from around 38 to 50 million years ago. During the geologic period, the Uinta Basin was occupied by a large lake called Lake Uinta. The lake extended 120 miles (190 km) west to Heber City, 30 miles (48 km) east to Rangely, Colorado, south to the Book Cliff Divide, north to the Uinta Mountains, and was about a half mile deep.
Fantasy Canyon is along the east shore of what was once Lake Uinta, where the sediments eroded from the surrounding high lands. Sediments were deposited and the once loose sands, silts, and clays were forged into sandstone and shale. Because of different rates of weathering, the more durable sandstone remained while the more easily weathered siltstone and shale washed away, yielding this spectacular scenery. Today’s geologic formations of Fantasy Canyon will eventually give way to weather and then topple and erode into sand, but new formations will appear as the topsoil washes away. Because the delicate formations are so fragile the area is referred to as “Nature’s China Shop.”

Spent a month in Beverly Hills over the holidays. Only had a point & shoot camera so not much to upload this month. But the store window at Tiffany's caught my eye. Diamonds are NOT my best friend,,, but I must admit they do dance & sparkle seductively ;-)
this one falls into the category of photo art... I used bits & pieces of 3 different photos plus a texture to create this. some of you may have seen my North Carolina Blue Mountains photos from a few days ago - I used that to make the background and reflection by making a duplicate copy, flipping the copy vertically and blending it in "Difference" mode. it gave me this nice water colour effect with these warm earthy tones. The pelicans are from my California 2007 trip. the cluster of weeds with the ripples around them are from St Augustine Beach, FL. The ripples were added digitally. The grasses in the foreground were done with a couple of different paint brush tools in photoshop.
There was a light snow/ice storm last night, and this morning I slipped outside and took this quick shot, handheld. It reminds me of some kind of fantasy setting.

Wheeee! This is so much fun. Unfortunately, the closeups of this little quilt are not good. i'll try to get better ones later. Check out the pieces of silk given by a quilty friend -- thanks again, Tia Mary. :) Lots of beading, stitching, pretty thread and fun beads. I'm hand stitching ribbon on the edges instead of binding. It's really fun to make. This one is about 12 inches square.

Cloud and Aerith see Tifa, in a Chocobo carriage, being taken to Don Corneo. Cloud wants to rescue her, but Tifa convinces him that she will be able to gain valuable intel this way. Aerith later convinces Cloud to continue on to Wall Market and sneak into Don Corneo's to help aid Tifa yet still give them a chance at the intel.
This is one of the few times I have gone back and revisited the same subject in a build. The original version was built in a few hours in 2020 for Day 2 of Rebellug's Vignette Week Contest.
I have since seen the original carriage available for sale from knockoff companies who stole my design. At first I thought about making instructions available for my original design, but I quickly realized that I might as well update it. This new version is much more accurate and proportionally correct. It has a full interior and benefits significantly from the extra design time. Instructions available on Rebrickable.
