To look at this one of Norway's most famous waterfalls at the top cliff point, you have to drive on the old road, making 125 sharp turns.

And sleeves of the waterfall twisting down through the rocks on the background of swirling mists above the gorges of the Mabodalen ridge.

If there is one place that is famous in the Seine-Maritime region, it is Saint-Georges de Boscherville Abbey. Its Romanesque style and authentic setting give it a very special charm. It is the result of a perfect blend of nature, art and history. Its roots are ancient, and it was built on a sacred site whose origin dates back to Gallo-Roman times.

The Laugavegur is a famous trekking route in South-West Iceland from the hot springs area of Landmannalaugar to the glacial valley of Þórsmörk . It is noted for the wide variety of landscapes on its 55 km (34 mi) path. The route is typically completed over 2–4 days with potential stops at the mountain huts at Hrafntinnusker, Álftavatn, Hvanngil and Emstrur. An ultramarathon is held on the route each July. It is possible to combine the trek with the Fimmvörðuháls route which goes over the pass from Þórsmörk to Skógar for an additional one or two days or an additional 25 km (16 mi). Landmannalaugar, Þórsmörk, and Skógar are all reachable by bus during the summer. A bus from Hella connects with Álftavatn once a day during the summer.

Harran is famous for its traditional "beehive" adobe houses, constructed entirely without wood. The design of these makes them cool inside, suiting the climatic needs of the region, and is thought to have been unchanged for at least 3,000 years. Some were still in use as dwellings until the 1980s. However, those remaining today are strictly tourist exhibits, while most of Harran's population lives in a newly built small village about 2 kilometres away from the main site.

The photo shows how these houses look from inside since they are now mostly used to attract tourists as cafes and souvenir shops.

Even the famous poet Heinrich Heine called the Ilse Valley in the Harz mountains one of the most beautiful hiking trails and memorialized it in the song "The Princess of Ilse" in the year 1827. Those who have allready seen it can easily understand that. In countless cascades the river Ilse is gurgling and rustling through an adorable beech forest. Its a magic place. where You can connect yourself perfectly with the spirit of nature.

The famous Old Neptune pub on the beach at Whitstable ideally located for sunset shots, so we were always happy to give it a go for sunset and if there wasn't one then it was a nice replace to relax in with a cool drink

Among many luxurious and less luxurious hotels on the island, the currently closed Hotel Formetor at Cala Pi de la Posada was the first luxury hotel on the island.

Built in 1929, it has been home to the rich, the famous and the celebrities, including Princess Soraya, Plácido Domingo, Audrey Hepburn, Charly Chaplin and John Wayne, Winston Churchill and Helmut Schmidt, Michael Douglas, Mikael Gorbatchow and the Dalai Lama. I am sure that many others have visited this beautifully located place.

We were able to spend a few beautiful hours on the pine-lined beach and swim in the turquoise blue water.

Seven centuries of art: from Flemish Primitives to Expressionists. World-famous masters. The largest and most important collections of James Ensor and Rik Wouters. Yet the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp is much more than even this internationally renowned collection of art. The KMSKA is the only Flemish museum with high-level scientific status.

Gaztelugatxe, the famous island with an hermitage on top, nowadays it's a touristy mess in high season, 10 years ago no one had heard of it except photographers. Daytime long exposure with the big stopper, I'm not very happy with the result, the waves are too overexposed.

This is a classic view of Maya Bay, made famous by the movie 'The Beach' starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Controversy arose during the making of the film due to 20th Century Fox's bulldozing and landscaping of the natural beach setting of Ko Phi Phi Leh to make it more "paradise-like". The production altered some sand dunes and cleared some coconut trees and grass to widen the beach. Fox set aside a fund to reconstruct and return the beach to its natural state; however, lawsuits were filed by environmentalists who believed the damage to the ecosystem was permanent and restoration attempts had failed. The lawsuits dragged on for years and in 2006 Thailand's Supreme Court upheld a ruling that the filming had harmed the environment and ordered that damage assessments be made. Defendants in the case included 20th Century Fox and some Thai government officials.

The windmills are the quintessential features of Mykonos landscape. There are plenty of them that have become a part and parcel of Mykonos. Visitors to Mykonos can see the windmills irrespective of the locale. From a distance, one can easily figure out the windmills, courtesy of their silhouette. They are primarily concentrated in the neighborhood of Chora and some are also located in and around Alevkantra. These innovative wheels were primarily used for crushing agricultural yields. In all, there were 16 such windmills in operation.

They are conspicuous by their snow-white color, spherical shape with the customary pointed roof made of the finest variety of wood. In the good old days, they were wind operated as Mykonos is renowned for their gusty wind, which continues to blow even today. The Windmills of Chora and the ones at Ano Mera were a great boon to the people of those localities and they were primarily used for grinding the agricultural products that were meant to be transported to places outside Mykonos.

As of now, with the advent of modernity, the windmills are no longer operational. But they continue to be a symbol of Mykonos rich virile past. Being hundreds of years old, most of the windmills have been thoroughly renovated and some have even been converted into museums, the most famous being the Bonis Windmill.

Mykonos windmills are a living testimony of the island's use of innovation when it came to tapping the enormous power of the wind to grind Mykonos agricultural produces.

Since he was almost a baby, he loved two famous clowns here in the country and I prepared him a little party, with these clowns as theme (if I can say it this way). He obviously adored each detail and it was a complete surprise. I loved watching his happiness. :))

Long Live the Brits Music

Utah has five famous national parks, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Arches and Zion. Plus several impressive national monuments, recreation areas and state parks.

This shot was taken in none of those places. I spotted this formation along a dusty road in a remote area in the far southern part of the state. Some of the most impressive cross-bedding I've seen. Mile for mile, southern Utah is among the most scenic places in the U.S.

Following the last couple of posts it seems I'm in a Southwestern U.S. theme.

Not many good images of birds from yesterday. It was very cloudy and dull.

Berenice Abbott

Born on July 17, 1898, in Springfield, Ohio, Berenice Abbott was a photographer who became famous for documenting the architectural landscape of New York City in the 1930s. An innovator of the straight or pure photography style, she was part of the West Coast Photographic Movement, a close-knit community of American photographers.

Early Years

The famous photographer was born Bernice Abbott and she was raised by her divorced mother in Springfield, Ohio. She briefly attended Ohio State University before moving to Greenwich Village. In 1921, she arrived in Paris to study sculpting with Emile Bourdelle.

Beginnings of a Career

Abbott was apprenticed to American expatriate Man Ray’s photography studio in Paris. Soon after, she opened a successful portrait studio where she took photos of various intellectuals and artists living in the late 1920s in Paris, including French photographer Eugene Atget, Irish writer James Joyce, and French novelist Jean Cocteau.

She was introduced to Eugene Atget’s works by Man Ray in 1925 and utterly impressed by his photographs, she decided to promote the late French photographer in her native country. In 1929, she returned to New York in order to find a publisher for Atget’s work and she was captivated by the technological and social progress experienced by the city.

She captured the city’s rapidly changing urban design using initially a hand-held Kurt-Bentzin camera. Later she acquired the large format Century Universal camera which she used for her famous “Changing New York” project, on which she worked independently for nearly six years. In 1933, she began teaching photography at the New School of Social Research, where she worked until 1958.

The famous words of Pontius Pilate might lead one to think there are no absolutes, and while that might be true of photography, where we can alter what comes out of a camera, there ARE absolutes in most everything in life.

This sky was much prettier than what my camera captured, which is why I took the shot in the first place. A little post processing, and now it's probably prettier than the actual scene was. What is Truth? The truth is there's a lot of beauty in this world, and we can choose to look up away from our cell phones and notice it, or not. God paints pretty pictures and I, for one, love to appreciate them!

If you notice the cloud formation towards the bottom in the center, you'll see it's quite unusual! I have no idea what kind of cloud that is. Anyone know?
