Fifty foot tall Faery Falls was roaring with snow melt. There was lots of spray at the base of the falls so we shot the falls from the slippery trail. Lots of trees and branches in the way. In the summer the falls is a lot more gentle and the pool at the foot of the falls is a popular swimming hole. But we enjoyed seeing the falls in full flow.

Taking some photos of a dragonfly in early morning shadow, when it circled up into a shaft of sunlight. Sometimes we get lucky.

Much Irish superstition exists around the Whitethorn tree. There is a reticence associated that the late poet Eavan Boland called the "superstitious aura of hawthorn". This may be a remnant of the ancient Irish regard for sacred trees that was part of the prehistoric pagan worship of nature. Later, trees in Ireland were associated with the development of the Ogham alphabet, and tellingly, the letter associated with hawthorn within that is hUath, thought to mean "fear". Often, we see single hawthorn trees standing alone in fields, or on old ring forts, untouched by farmers. Variously known as gentry thorn, lone bushes or skeaghs, there are tens of thousands of them across Ireland. They look gnarled, weathered and otherly throughout the winter months without the green clothing of their leaves.
These trees that grew of their own accord, unplanted by human hands, are those most regarded with fear and superstition. These are thought of as faery trees, associated with those unseen beings from the other world. They are believed to mark the places where the faeries, after dark, would assemble and play sweet ethereal music, ready to abduct any beautiful human who took their fancy. Faeries could potentially destroy the crops, livestock, health, fortune or luck of anyone they took a dislike to, or anyone who had somehow wronged them. Thus, anything associated with faery activity in Ireland was traditionally avoided by the people who used many rituals to appease them.

Playing on the Hill of Tara in County Meath, Ireland. Her dream is to become a faery and I believe she's well on her way to earning her wings.
I found a little faery living among my water lilies, her name is Cricket. She glows in the dark and I am completely in love with her!
She is a Charles Creature Cabinet Firefly Faery Fidelia.
Belatedly, after this already has as many faves as it is likely to get I will point out that it is part of the "Green Man" series where there are faces and creatures hidden in plain sight for those who look carefully.
I've done a lot of things today ... run all around all the day.
so I'm in mood to look children play and take good time ....

this creation came from a shoot yesterday .. my son and i were jumping on the bed.. fun!!! and i made the background using a picture of mountains in colorado where my borther lives and a field of poppies i found on the internet!!! :)
my son has not been napping consistently or for very long, so this means changes are necessary in my rules for my 365... i don't want to quit the project..but i am going to loosen my requirements.. since i rarely get use of that free chunk of time in the afternoon..i am just going to have to try my best to take a picture and whether or not i do a lengthy manipulation will have to depend on my son's needs..
:) i'm trying hard not to be disappointed about making huge changes with my stream.. but in a way i think it will help me grow as a photographer to try and come up with interesting shots that don't need much processing... but don't get me wrong..if i find the time to process a photo.. i certainly will! ... since it is one of my greatest joys and forms of expression... just wanted to give a head's up about where my stream might be heading..
