TRIGEMINAL NERVE AND ITS OPHTHALMIC BRANCHES IN SURFACE ANATOMY
When placing a suction cup or a hand on the face or neck: it is the trigeminal nerve that is stimulated. This is the essential nerve of the sensitivity of the face and neck.
Before projecting to the surface, like ramifications of the branches of a tree, the trigeminal nerve divides into three branches from a trigeminal ganglion called Gasser. These three branches are ophtalmic branch (V1), maxillary branche (V2 ) and mandibular branch ( V3).
Then, as we said in a previous article, peripheral nerve roots come out through holes in the bones of the face. These roots will "scatter" over the entire surface of the skin, they have a skin receptor field.
What is interesting: it is to know the number of these emergent branches on the surface:
- For the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal we have 5 branches.
- For the maxillary branch of the trigeminal we have 3 branches.
- For the mandibular branch of the trigeminal we have 3 branches.
Little focus about acupoint Jiache ST6.
According of study Min. & al, it is an inhibitor of electric activities on temporalis muscle.
Here, the possible pathway through sensitive cervical nerves then across the trigemino-cervical complex .
Chinese meridian is not explicated here. If you have an idea... I am not acupuncturist.
