The 30th day since humans can’t leave their home. Quarantine. Only humans know the meaning of this word. Meanwhile, cats Kasparas and Spirgis continue to live their cat lives.
By Ricardas Jarmalavicius, 2020. iPhone 11 Pro
This photo was taken in Spain in the delightful Delta de l'Ebre Park. Lovers, swimwear in the sun, and dog in a dust - all of this tells you about hot summer day which ending.
On January 27th 1945 concentration camp Auschwitz in Poland was liberated, where at least 1.1 million people were killed. And I remember summer of 2019, when I found a dead swallow in the women's barracks at these death camp.
In many cultures, a swallow is a symbol of hope. What if the bird is dead? Perhaps it symbolizes the dead hope of the victims? Or maybe it was the soul of the dead, as dead swallows were called in ancient Greece?
Fuji at it's best and also most difficult. The colours are great reminding me of the X100F but manual without the benefits of the XT30ii with the manual lens information makes it less so. At the end of the day photography is fun so end of story.

In 1999 I went back to Japan for the first time in 20 years for the funeral of my wife's older sister. We spent most of our visit with family, but managed to fit in an overnight trip to Sendai which got me my first ride on the Shinkansen, and a chance to see nearby Matsushima, whose natural beauty had inspired the haiku poet, Basho, on his travels through Northern Japan. At the time, I had just acquired my first digital camera, a Sony Mavica FD5 which used floppy disks for storage and had a maximum 640X480 resolution. I used it on the Japan trip to take simple images which were barely good enough for 4X6 prints. The visit also reawakened my interest in Japan which had gone dormant for many years in the pursuit of career and domestic priorities.
Family matters and my reawakened interest called us back to Japan several times over the next 10 years but we never managed to make it back to Sendai. This was going to be the year. We had tickets to leave March 25th when suddenly everything changed on 3/11. After consulting with family and friends in Japan, we decided to cancel and hope for better conditions later this year, although even that looks pretty uncertain.
Sendai, and Matsushima in particular, may never be quite the same in my lifetime so I may never get the chance to go back for a visit. But here on flickr we can see both pristine images from before the disaster, and sad and sobering images from the aftermath. One photostream I have been following for some time is that of Toru Aihara whose incredible images of Matsushima and Sendai have always reminded me what a beautiful area this is. If you have not seen them, I highly recommend his Matsushima set and Sendai Series.
As for me, I have taken my low resolution images from that long distant visit to Sendai and combined them with my equally low fi audio track of a simple song written about missing the Sendai and Matsushima that once was, but may never be the same again.
