A fun environmental portrait of my wonderful optometrist who is not only a skilled professional but is also graced with a great sense of humor. Lucky for me her husband enjoyed it too and so they got a print as a thank you for playing along.

Try viewing LARGE is you like being shocked. : ))

P.S. Hats off to the Fuji engineers who concocted this so called "kit lens" which is really quite sharp. Its image stabilization is equally incredible, e.g. this was shot at 1/20 sec hand held.

Thanks to every single visitor, for all the kind words and encouragement.

I'm also coming up on my one year flickrversary in a few days.

This year has been probably the best in memory.

This community has changed my life and the way I see.

Thank you for that.

Doc says my vision hasn't changed in the past six years. I beg to differ.

Here's lookin' at you kids.

August Is National Eye Exam Month

August is “National Eye Exam Month” and healthy vision starts with an eye exam. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends that you have a baseline eye exam at age 40, the time when the early signs of disease or changes in your vision may occur. A baseline screening can help identify signs of eye disease at an early stage, when treatment can have the greatest impact on preserving your vision.

If you’re 65 or older, it’s recommended that you have your eyes checked every year or two for signs of age-related diseases, like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.

The doctor may suggest additional testing to further evaluate your vision using specialized testing equipment. These tests can be crucial in diagnosing a disease in its early stages and give the doctor an opportunity to suggest a treatment or cure. Prevention through early detection is key to good eye health.

Went for my eye exam, kind of important, especially when you are a photographer. Everything is good! Of course I brought my camera, something I never would have done before doing a 365.

Took this photo while my eyes were dilated at the opthamologist's office.

View On Black

What a crazy sequence of events happened to me on my way to see my eye doctor. It reminded me of a comedy movie After Hours, where an office worker experiences a series of misadventures while trying to get home. No matter how hard he tried, he simply couldn’t make it home. Something similar happened to me.

On my way to my eye doctor's office, I knew I was slight late.

So I rushed.

Got off the subway stop - or so I thought

Ran upstairs, looked around.. only to realize I got off too early

About 40 blocks too early. lol

Ran back down to catch the next train

Only to discover I hopped on the wrong train

Jumped off the next station to transfer the right train

Finally arrived at the correct stop

Ran to the building that I have been visiting for last 10 years

When I got there - the building was gone

Just air. Empty space.

Am I in the right place?

It simply was not there.

I stood there blinking my eyes

Going to the eye doctor and not being able to see the building.

This is real irony

Turns out they office moved a year ago - after my last visit

I was 45 minutes late and completely blinded by my rush

I took this video of myself staring at tribesman - pretty sure they all laughing at me and all my misadventures.

tuesday seems to be my day for reposting....... love this one from NL in april :)

doesn't she have a great smile....... :)

DD needed new glasses for reading/close-up work so we hied ourselves off the the city center.

can't say enough nice things about the pearl vision center in nieuweign!!

they even offered us tea or coffee while we waited-- now that is ambiance ~grin~

Any sarcasm is purely self-inflicted.

I took a few photos of myself with my iPhone at an eye exam today while the Dr. was out of the room!

Phoropter from the optometrist's office.

You are getting sleepy....sleepy....when I count to ten, is this better or worse?

No, not at a hypnotist's office - at the eye doctor after work where I really was getting sleepy.....sleepy....

By looking through a patient’s widened pupil during a dilated eye exam, eye care professionals can view the retina—the postage stamp-sized tissue lining the back of the inner eye—and look for irregularities that may signal the development of vision loss.

Thanks to research, retinal imaging just keeps getting better. The images above, which show the same cells viewed with two different microscopic techniques, provide good examples of how tweaking existing approaches can significantly improve our ability to visualize the retina’s two types of light-sensitive neurons: light-sensing, color-detecting cone cells (orange) and lowlight-sensing rod cells (blue). I was taking an exam today with this Canon rig. Cost me $60 for my eye photo. I wanted to ask the technician if I could mount my Canon 5D with this lens. It looks awesome.

-Read the line 7-

It's time to change lenses after 3 almost 4 years, this implies a new eye exam. The line 7 in particular caused me a little suffering because was the most I could hardly read, the C's blended with an O and O thought it was a Q... u.u but at the end was great because I could read untill line 11 and I felt I was carrying binoculars posts xD...

In conclusion, the formula of the view climbed up again , which means I'm more blind ... which also explains why was so difficult decide for a new glasses, but that's another story. :)

I made use of the time I was waiting to see my ophthalmologist by taking photos of his equipment.

Until that evening I hadn't realized that I didn't know what this common examination device was called. Now I know: It's a phoropter. Wikipedia's article about them is here:
