Taken around the time of a full moon when the tide was lower than usual and heavy seas had scoured away the sand that has filled these passages in the rock for much of the last few months. Cookies Beach, South Durras at sunrise

Yes, the forest nemesis. Not overly big one's, just enough to trip the trekker. Apart from that, they contrast well with the path ahead in both colour and growth.

Hautes Vosges Lispach

Arnside, Cumbria, sits at the northeastern corner of Morecambe Bay. Here, the sands are exposed temporarily near low tide, with the shallow channel of the River Kent estuary the only water.

A man and his son are on a paddleboard, letting the current do the work. Liminal - calm and peaceful before the tide turns.

World Photography Day 2024

A gnarled Monterey Cypress tree tops a rocky promontory on a foggy morning at Point Lobos.

Finally, this should be the last in the four-photograph series of images that focus on this gnarled and weathered tree standing on top of a rocky prominence along the exposed north shore of Point Lobos. The tree is always impressive, but I was fortunate to catch it on a morning when persistent coastal fog was thinning and creating glowing light that was just slightly directional.

Of the four interpretations of this scene, this one fits with the earlier portrait-mode version as one of the two most conventional views. In both cases the tree is clearly the primary subject, more tightly framed in the portrait mode interpretation and including a bit more background in this landscape mode version. (The other two used wider formats and included additional elements of the larger scene — a clearer view of the white rocks and cormorants in one case, and some nearby trees in the other.)

Old car dealership signage exposed by tear off. The Essex brand of automobiles was produced from 1919 until 1933 making this some pretty historic signage. Along the 4200 block of SW Adams Street in Peoria Illinois.

And I’m not talking about my little green buddy. He was perched on a tangle of floating plants in the middle of the bayou and there was no way of getting close to him without being noticed. He stopped foraging when I arrived and departed soon after I took this shot. You can manage “almost” walking on water when you are as light as this little character…with the help of a floating mass of vegetation. Green Heron foraging on Horsepen Bayou. I might add that he’s still dressed in his breeding colors and the blue lores and the salmon-colored legs can still be seen clinging on to this Greenie.

Some of you may recall that I broke the news on this top secret government facility located deep in the Snoqualmie forest and I've been broadcasting from a mobile van ever since to avoid the FBI and Guantanamo .... Actually it's a water pump station but it was love at first sight. I walked past this again Saturday and remembered that this shot never made the show so I blew the dust off of it. If you haven't seen it, check out 'the Fantabulous Contrapulator in comments, it's WAY up there in my favorite shots all time. Happy Windows Wednesday!

(I originally processed this photo in ON1 Photo Raw, which I was testing at the time. But frankly this update from Lightroom is better--more pleasing and natural colors and no artifacts from denoise. Think my experiment with ON1 is over.)

The 1st day of our trip had us heading for Reykjanes. The previous evening we managed to see the erupting volcano with a bit of ducking and diving around the security but it was all perfectly legal what we did and being with responsible adults I knew I was in safe hands. lol. We arrived at the Lighthouse to windy conditions. Our Co-Driver promptly jumped out of the car to ascertain what way the wind was blowing. (Always a stickler for accuracy) so we could get the steam at its best.

WWT Slimbridge.

The Glossy Ibis has become more familiar to birdwatchers following a series of mass arrivals in the 2000s. Increasing numbers of reports since then mirror an increase in the breeding population located in the south-west of Europe. There have been a number of breeding attempts here in the UK. It is likely that more regular breeding will be a feature in the future.

Climate change is thought to have supported the growth in visiting Glossy Ibis to Britain, with milder winters aiding their survival and enabling individuals to attempt breeding attempts the following year. (BTO).

Not as large as I thought it might be. About the size of a Curlew (which surprised me). This Glossy Ibis was in a field north of the entrance road into WWT Slimbridge. Not actually in the main reserve. I believe this is a juvenile bird, it didn’t seem to mind people at all.

By the time I got to it, the sun was already much higher in the sky than I would normally like and there was already a small crowd of people, birders and others watching it. It has been hanging around WWT Slimbridge for a few days now.

This shot is a little bit over-exposed where there’s some water on the beak and a little on the right leg, but I’m ok with that considering! For me this is a first, I’ve never seen one before!

My thanks to anyone who views, faves or comments on any of my photos. It is much appreciated.

Another shot from the end of the beautiful curved bay.

Stay with me forever

Stay in till it's dark

Stay in till the morning

Till we see the sun

Say you'll never leave me

Here's where you belong

Stay in till the morning

Stay a little while

Liz I can't wait to get you in my bed

Do you need me?, Do do do do do you need me baby.

It's been months since you've been here and say...

Did you mean it?, Did did did did did you mean it baby.

Now work with me a little while

Much of settling down but we hanging around

Started in a whole damn show, but we at the whole time low

Yeah it won't be a little while

Not in till late till we reconcile

Here are hearts exposed,

Not nobody takes the seats while the curtains close

(Do do do do do do do, do do do do do do)

Here are hearts exposed,

Not nobody takes the seats while the curtains close

(Do do do do do do do, do do do do do do)

Here are hearts exposed,

Not nobody takes the seats while the curtains close

Sway our hearts in motion

Swaying in all night

Swaying in slow motion

Until our hearts collide

I'm not good with emotion

But show me a little more fun

Just a little more devotion

That you willing to make it right

It's been months since you've been here and say...
