My name is Kodo and I am 24 years old. I have one boy who is three years old. I didn’t have a chance to live with his mom because we had our son when we were too young. She was 20 years old and I was only 21, so I didn’t marry her because our parents said that we are too young for the marriage. Today, I have a new girlfriend. It has been almost four years without seeing my son’s mom so I met a new girlfriend. My son’s mom and I used to live in the same village, but she moved to Uganda with her parents after finishing high school when she was pregnant.
It was very hard for me to have a kid at 21 years old without a job and while I was still living with my family but with God’s help I tried to take care of him. I am happy because I am now able to feed him and pay his school fees. He is currently attending a preschool in Kampala/Uganda. With this responsibility, I am not able to go to university. I moved from Rubavu to Kigali to look for a better living. I am a cartoonist artist based in Kigali, Rwanda and it is through this work that I get my living expenses.
My advice to young people is that they should always remember to protect themselves while making love to their girlfriends/boyfriends

My first ever boat ride with my car on the boat. Some people do this every day to get off the island they live on.

April 2020 Hike 100 Challenge April 1- April 16 With the Covid-19 virus, the stay close to home orders & the practice of social distancing all my 100 miles were done locally. Agnew Road is our dead-end country road with a pond that always has something interesting to see. When I started this Challenge in April the pond was frozen over. As the days went by and conditions warmed the ice left. Hooded Mergansers moved in & could be seen swimming & diving in the early morning hours. Chipmunks and squirrels scampered to and fro as a hawk watched from high up in a tree. Pussy Willows were in bloom a sure sign that spring was here. At our home we are also blessed with 45 acres of woods and open meadows with trails through them. Deer are frequently seen basking in the sun or flying through the woods as graceful as can be. Turkeys are a normal occurrence moving through the woods or bathing in the sand patches. Our trails lead us to the Beartown Ski trail system. Using their cross-country trails, I am able to get a good hill work out in. Point au Roche State Park is a gem, one of my favorite spots. An 840-acre Natural Playground. Much of the Park is along the beautiful shores of Lake Champlain. My walks took me through forested and open areas, along beaches, a wildlife refuge, ponds and bays. With April comes spring and the park was bursting with activity. Trees were starting to bud, the songbirds & peepers adding music to my walk. Waterfowl could be seen in the bays enjoying the rays of the early morning some diving, chasing each other and others just floating along. I was able for the first time to see Trumpet Swans migrating through...so exciting! During the course of my walks I found Mergansers, Buffleheads, Canadian Geese, Snow Geese, Sea Gulls, Cardinals, Mourning Doves, Robins, The Eastern Towhee, Chickadees, Barred Owl to name a few I knew and some that I didn’t know the name of. After days of seeing signs of new beaver activity at the park I spotted the newcomer early one morning swimming in Deep Bay toward me. Being still the beaver crossed over and into the pond. Another exciting moment!!! The pond is alive with Bull Frog tadpoles about 3 inches in length. After a little research I found out the Bull Frog Tadpole takes two to three year to morph into a Bull Frog. They were enjoyable to watch coming to the water’s edge basking in the sun. The resident red fox with 4 black feet was spotted early one morning searching for its breakfast. I can’t wait to catch a glimpse of its pups that will be out soon. Early morning is such a perfect time to check out all the wildlife. I was so excited to see my first flower of the season. After some research I learned it was the Coughwort or Coltsfood. Coughwort is a bright yellow flower that resembles a dandelion. The stem is not smooth like the dandelion and the center of the stem is not hollow. It is ironic that during this pandemic I find out this plant can be used for lung problems such as asthma. Sunrises on the Eastern shore of Long Point and Conners Bay in the Park is breathtaking. A time to watch as nature creates a different masterpiece in the sky as each new day unfolds. Peace and contentment sooths the soul during these uncertain times. Problems dissolve away for a time. So, get out, walk and really look what is around you. Discover each day what nature has to offer. Above all enjoy!
