“What, then, is a travelling mind-set? Receptivity might be said to be its chief characteristic. Receptive, we approach new places with humility. We carry with us no rigid ideas about what is or is not interesting. We irritate locals because we stand in traffic islands and narrow streets and admire what they take to be unremarkable small details. We risk getting run over because we are intrigued by the roof of a government building or an inscription on a wall”
The Art of Travel, Alain De Botton
I took a small detour from work today to continue my adventures throughout the Bay Area. So many emotions hit me while I drove towards Santa Cruz and Big Basin: in that time, no one knew where I was, I had no service, and it was dead silent on Highway 35, save the occasional car and motorcycle. It was chilling, thrilling, and peaceful all at once. What a contradiction.
Needless to say, it was the boost I needed from the withdrawals of Las Vegas.
