Generally speaking, crossing the line is most often seen as an issue of legality or morality. For some people, the lines are always clear and concise, rules to be followed no matter what and there is always some consequence to be paid when one deviates from what's "right". Their lines represent conformity and they are okay with that. Sometimes, though, the lines are blurred and it's hard to tell exactly where they are, maybe because our thinking is at odds with that of our family or society as a whole, and we need to re-draw the lines once we are clear on where we stand.
I believe it's a good thing to check out the lines that define us, whether those made by personal choices or those that are standards of society. If we look around, I think we will sometimes find that we have drawn ourselves into a box that no longer serves us, and that the only way out of it is to step across a line.

Fall season at its peak. My friend Jen and I thought of exploring the Cedar Lake Trail. We found something interesting on the side, so left our bicycles on the road to discover a few simple things of life.

On this grey day I was looking for a beach picture to post, when I came across this picture of the barn door by the "house of decrepitude", as "thruthelookingglass" and I affectionately refer to the two old houses and barn in town. I had never really noticed this fabulous old latch that reminds me of the spinning arrow on a game of chance! Look at the ring worn into the wood from the movement of the latch! I love the rusty old latch and the combination of the old stone wall and fading red paint on the door. I think I like that old barn every bit as much as the houses, maybe even more!
And as Susan and I marched up to the old houses, past the posted "NO TRESPASSING, NO HUNTING" signs.... I'm reminded of a message from Mark Twain...
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. "
(or, again, as Susan and I say... trespass...it's OK as long as you are carrying a camera and wearing a smile!)
