Leica M6, Carl Zeiss 35mm, Portra 400

I was lucky enough to have been spoiled for my birthday today.

I write this from the cozy confines of a quaint and simple A-frame cabin, nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in British Columbia.

I have pressed my first cup of coffee, put on my wool socks and underwear, and listening to some Jimmy Eat World. I would have it no other way.

We had a bit of a trial making it here. Everything was going perfectly. By perfectly, I mean: perfect driving conditions, a beautiful day, nothing to complain about.

In Strathmore, just outside of Calgary, Alberta, we started overheating.

An hour or so later, it was determined that there were air bubbles in the coolant system, causing it to overflow, leaving very little in the system.

After a top up and a call to my insurance, we were back on the road. Wait. That's a lie. We stopped for the first time since July, at McDonald's.

After the greasy mess we shovelled down, and making it into Calgary, I managed to sneak this shot.

A distant view of the mountains past Calgary from shotgun, through the dirty windshield.

I removed some small specks and bits of light in the silhouette of the mountain and I only had to remove one light post that was right in the middle of the frame.

I figure since we had a bit of a delay, this sunset more than made up for it. I could sit here and type up all of the wonderful things I felt during this short sunset but it's not long before sun up here and I need to go see what else I can find.

This was the first shot I took off the Aurora tonight.

Love how there's so many accessible lakes near Banff.

Seeing stunning sights with friends you finally meet in person. Awesome #explorealberta #stayandwander Great to finally meet and hang with @mikeseehagel @christopheramat and @namkcaps Getting to Bears Hump requires a short but steep climb of 1.5 km (0.9 miles). And yes, I saw a bear! instagram.com/p/prCusyyZyK/

This plains bison bull was enjoying a peaceful summer morning at Elk Island National Park in Alberta. He was grazing in a beautiful field, letting the summer breeze flow through his cape, and taking a moment to appreciate the stillness of the day, before tourists flocked in to stare at him.

While the remaining few vehicles leave the city hub for the night, the sidewalks remain empty inside the eerily quiet Calgary - never have a seen a downtown with so little night-time activity.

St. Albert, Alberta, Canada

This beautiful 4 year old Bear has been amongst the Khutzeymateen since he was born. We were able to spend an hour with him on this morning, and some more time on other days with him. He crossed the estuary, and walked along the waters edge giving us plenty of opportunity for great photos. This was shot at 200mm to get an idea of how close we were.
