One of the most iconic plants of the Cahaba River is the Cahaba lily, an aquatic flowering plant which grows only in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. A type of spiderlily belonging to the amaryllis family, the Cahaba lily is noted for the striking beauty of its three-inch-wide white flowers. The lily requires a very specialized habitat—swift-flowing water over rocks and lots of sun.

Sanderling jumping along the seaweed-covered rocks. I was up to my usual capturing sunrise when a group of these birds came along. These birds are very skittish so I feel very lucky to capture a couple of them with my 70-200mm lens.

January 8 - Landscape
As I am down sick today but am determined not to miss I have pulled this from my archives. This is one of my favorite photos taken on our trip across country when we moved from Florida to Oregon. This was taken somewhere in Alabama. I loved the countryside in Alabama such beautiful country!
