NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit used its navigation camera to record this scene on the day the rover arrived at the crest area of "Husband Hill" inside Gusev Crater. That was Spirit's 581st martian day, or sol, on Aug. 21, 2005. The rover had just completed its longest one-sol drive in months, 44.8 meters or 47 feet, before taking this picture. A wind-sculpted ripple of sand or dust dominates the foreground, on top of the hill, while a whirlwind lofts a column of dust above the plain in the distance.

Part of a huge computer, originally an AI for sorting coal by grade, now gone mad, and trying to apply it's bizarre coal-based racist views on the wasteland. Brotherhood was able to shut most of it down, but the thing still creeps me out. It whispers things like "Coal Baby- Dark, dark. Perfect dark. White- too white. Too many impurities."
You can see one of the wastelanders who worship the damn thing in the photo. They call it "The Bringer Of Perfect Darkness"

Curated by Andy McGivern, the seventy objects comprising “Explorations in Wood” are a small sample of the work held in the collection of Philadelphia’s Center for Art in Wood, gathered over a forty-year period. The works stem from a love of wood and display a variety of wood types. Processes are varied, too, including wood-turned vessels as well as more sculptural forms. The exhibition is proof that The Center for Art in Wood encourages an international roster of artists to not only explore the many facets of wood; the Center also continues to challenge artists to discover the inherent and dynamic possibilities of the medium.
2013 Exploration Days, Beginning Model Rocketry
June 19-21 at MSU, nearly 2,500 youth and chaperones from every MI county come stay on campus for 4-H Exploration Days-- a pre-college program to meet new people and experience the life of a Spartan.
