The image today is a panoramic shot looking north over Loch Leven towards Bishop Hill and catching part of the escarpment of Benarty hill from where the image was taken.
This image was taken just as the sun was descending over the horizon leaving the hills illuminated by the last rays but the basin of the loch was already in near darkness. Only the reflected light from the skies prevented the water area being too dark to work with.
This shot is a four frame horizontal panorama with HDR processing to bring out more of the colour range. The entire photoshop image is about 4GB in size which makes it a little difficult to work with but it’s worth it when I’m able to capture a nice scene like this. I have another version of this image where I have another frame to the left but that shot contains the sun which was just too bright and burned the frame out. I may still use it because I like the fact that the loch is complete in that image and this one feels a little stunted by chopping off the western edge of the water.
I enjoy producing panorama images like this because it makes the whole experience of seeing this first hand easier to comprehend but the time and effort it takes to post process this makes it something that I don’t do all that often. I could have post processed about a dozen long exposure images in the time it required to blend all these frames together. Please let me know if it was worth the effort. Thanks.

for all of us. The elk cow to the right had to go back and get her baby calf because it wouldn't come. She looked rather perturbed judging by her ears being pinned back every once in a while. The very last baby was hurt in the hind end when it climbed the bank. If it doesn't heal soon things won't look good for it, the predators prey on the weak. Taken from my kayak.
Another Halloween and another collaboration with Gwyn. As usual, I am asked to do a photograph but with little else given, so I show up and suddenly I am chased by a deranged witch, with a knife!

Northern class 150 unit 150104 (partnered with 150138) departs Blackpool South with the 3.16pm to Colne (2N78).
With a scheduled 4 minute turnaround at this terminus, there's barely time for the driver to walk from one end of the train to the other before setting off again. On this day the turnaround was even tighter seeing as arrival from Colne was 2 minutes late.
Blackpool South, with its single platform and evidence of former glories en route, is very much the Cinderella line into this popular northern seaside town. In fact a significant part of the remaining platform has been abandoned to nature, as seen in this shot. By contrast Blackpool North is vibrant, recently electrified, and boasts fast direct services to London Euston. No surprise It also handles the vast majority of passenger arrivals and departures.
I arrived into this station on a sunny Sunday afternoon and walked the two miles or so along the bracing, enjoyable and ever vibrant promenade before waltzing back inland to North Station for the rather faster ride back to Preston.
A bit of a record shot so I'm not expecting a ten from Len. Sure I spotted Madge though.....

SCOUT: "Oh I can fix that, Daddy!" *Smiles.* "Wait there!" *Rushes away before coming back with a big red bow tied under his chin.* "Now can you put my photograph on Looking Close on Friday, please Daddy?"
DADDY: "Goodness! Where did that ribbon come from?"
SCOUT: "It was one of the ones you collected from Christmas Day, yesterday. I think I look pretty!" *Preens more.* "Now, can you PLEASE put my photograph on Looking Close on Friday, Daddy, so that everyone can admire me?"
DADDY: "Alright Scout."
SCOUT: "Oh thank you, Daddy!" *Preens even more.* "I knew you would see it my way... eventually."
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 26th of December is "red bow". My little bear Scout received this beautifully made Little Red Riding Hood cape from Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear for Christmas this year, and whilst Scout is correct, it does tie with a bow, the bow was very small, so being a master of dress-ups, Scout embellished his new cape with a lovely big red bow! I hope you like my choice for this week's theme, and that it makes you smile!
Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
Frenchman Valley Campsite in Grassland National Park, in southern Saskatchewan, is a special place. Here, one can restore their soul and experience the prairies in their natural state. Parks Canada has many of these signature red chairs throughout the country set up in spectacular locations such as this.
One of the many money shots of Horseshoe Bluff in the Mines of Spain State Park near Dubuque,IA. This historic park stems from the areas beginnings when Spain owned the area and lead mining was king.The Park,which contains many areas that are listed as National Historic Landmarks,was first developed as a lead mining site by Julien Dubuque. His grave site is on a scenic bluff overlooking the Mississippi River within the park....

Visited a very quite Moraine Lake ("above" Lake Louise). the parking lot at L. Louise was full again so we decided to try our luck at Moraine. No problems parking there. You should have seen it last year, people lining up at the road entrance at 5:00AM to get up to the lake. Like it a bit better this way. ;( though mixed feelings about the reasons !! see date if you remember those times.

I'm typically more interested in the enlightened part than the shopping part, but the two together gave me this, so...
My dad took us to Cirque Du Soleil on my birthday this year. Seeing the smiles and amazed faces of my children; Spending quality time with my parents; Attending an entertaining event. These memories will last longer than any item I could have received.
This holiday season I'll be trying to give experiences instead of presents. As a bonus, this means very little time squished into shopping malls.
A related recent presents conversation with my son...
Sam - "What experience are you going to give me?"
Me - "The privilege of cleaning the upstairs bathroom."
Sam - "I think I'll re-gift that one."
