Another shot from my evening walk earlier this week. It's a silhoette of a dandelion, what more can I say?
It was a perfect evening for this so expect a few more of these on my photostream in the next few days....
I thought it was so funny to see this place in Santorini with the table on the outside of the building so high up....a cool optical illusion! Last Caturday was dinner for one and this Caturday is dinner for two!

I went to the Sandhill Crane Festival in Fairbanks, Alaska and was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting four days of rain but we had two nice afternoons of some sunshine otherwise it would have been disappointing for photograhy! One of the rainy evenings I was thrilled to see hundreds if not more than a thousand cranes arrive to Creamer's Field in Fairbanks. Here I've captured two cranes coming in to one of the fields to eat and rest for a bit on their migration south.

We knew that roe deer visited our yard, it was clearly visible in the hoof prints. It was also not to be overlooked that our roses, sedum and other flowers had been snacked in the past few days. But we did not expect that a deer would visit our garden during the day while we were sitting nearby in the kitchen....
Wasn't expecting to find a discarded 'Freedom Trail' chair at West Kirby this morning.
I might've moved it, okay I did move it and probably not to the best place composition wise.
Anyway, I'm now the proud owner of a Go Outdoors own brand collapsible chair:)
Finders Keepers and all that.

Actually there was the sunrise expected on the right side of that frame 30 minutes ago. The weatherforecast wrote that there would be a cloud cover of 30 % of the sky, so it shouldn't be a problem. But if these 30 % building a massiv wall on the wrong place I’ll keep trapped in the dawning for a while. Nature is what is happening, while I'm having different plans.
Eigentlich sollte vor ungefähr 30 Minuten auf der rechten Seite die Sonne aufgegangen sein. Der Wetterbereicht hat von 30 %iger Wolkenabdeckung des Himmels gesprochen, eigentlich kein Problem. Wenn sich allerdings diese 30 % wie ein massive Wand genau an der falschen Stelle auftürmen bleib ich noch ne Weile in der Morgendämmerung gefangen. Natur ist eben das was passiert, während ich andere Pläne mache.

This ruby-crowned kinglet is reacting as he hears the weather forecast that is saying we can expect up to four inches of snow overnight. I hope Mother Nature plays a nicer April Fool's Day joke next year. This little guy just arrived in the area today after leaving Mexico a few weeks ago. Too bad he's getting such a rude welcome.
We are expecting possibly 40cm of snow! I'm so excited!! I wonder if our visitors from the artic feel the same way? Snowy Owl

At Jazz Festivals you must expect all kinds of music. Montreal dedicates different stages to different genres, so you kind of know what is happening. Matthew Whitaker was a new name for me and he was playing on 'Blues Stage'. I did not expect Steve Wonder, but if you close your eyes, that's who was on the stage (except he doesn't sing). Matthew is only 22 years old and he made it in NYC already. I only realized at the end of the concert, when he was led of stage, that he is blind.

Expect that the captain aboard the ferry to Denmark, was reasonably "pissed off" when we didn't move our boat fast enough out of his way. Although they used the ship`s whistle / horn eagerly ...... But we were on a fishing trip and then everything else have to wait..... :-) Sorry Captain!
Since wind was weak, and only a few boats were on the river, reflections were much better than expected. In Inuyama, Aichi, Japan.
Cormorant fishing in Japan has tradition of more than 1000 years. A master fisherman skillfully handle cormorants, which are held on lashes, dive and catch fishes. The man behind the fisherman manages the ship in a proper position.

I expect there may be many images of snail shells for this theme, so decided to give my snails a rest this week and photograph my cycad house plant that has just put up a few new leaves - all the tiny 'leaflets' have coiled ends when they first appear that will straighten as the leaf grows. On this particular leaf, one of the little leaflets has grown a bit ahead of the others and shown off the lovely details of its coiled end.

The image was done as a 5-shot focus stack at f3.5, focusing on the tight coil which was 1cm across.

The blizzard we were expecting turned out to be mostly bark and little bite. Better yet, this friendly goldfinch stopped by to make my day even brighter. I can't fault the weather forecasters for their predictions, since areas just a couple counties to the north are still on track to get about 18 inches of snow by tomorrow morning. With luck, we'll only see about 4 inches on the ground. We also had a warm push of air that turned the precipitation to rain and freezing rain for part of the day, so our weather wasn't all peaches and cream

This photo, taken November 6, 2021, documents the presence of wildflowers and butterflies in late fall in the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area in western Colorado. The most abundant flowers were on on rabbitbrush, Chrysothamnus nauseosus. I saw dozens of clouded sulphur butterflies, Colias philodice on rabbitbrush in the 3 balmy days that I was there. This photo shows the only sunflower blossom that I saw in 3 days.
For reasons that I do not understand, I was never able to get a view of the dorsal surface of the wings, so the butterflies might have been orange sulphurs, Colias erytheme.
As I was traveling to this area, I expected to see only dried flowers and no insects. What a pleasant surprise!
This little eastern wood-pewee was having fun watching the world go by, or else waiting for a tasty bug to fly by - I'm guessing the latter. This is likely a local eastern wood-pewee but now that August is here, northern birds could be shifting south already. I'd like to thank all my Flickr friends who took the time to look at and favorite photos in the Avian Jewels of Arizona album that I put together. I did it for a few birding friends and never expected anybody else to take a peek. As you can see there, not all of my photos are prime time.
I expect this would be called a weed. But the plant produced lots of wind-ready fruit, and it looked elegant, for a weed.
