The dragging of the 12- ton combination by the 8 horses has exhausted the animals and they are given a break before the whole combination is brought back ashore.
The entire operation is carried out with the "Groninger" draft horse, formerly known as "Bovenlander".
The Groninger draft horse is very reliable , level headed, versatile and has a very nice and calm character while he can be used for everything.
The temperament is even, sufficiently lively and very willing to work with an extremely high endurance.
In the early 20th century this horse breed was used for agriculture- and transport work and partly due to its quiet character it was also used for mililtairy tasks in the field artillery.
At the end of the seventies of the last century this horse breed was almost extinct, but in 1982 the association "The Groninger Horse" stated a breeding program and today there are 1.500 Groninger horses and about 30 foals are born every year.
The horse is less suitable as a riding horse, but all the more for harness sport, partly due its high endurance.
The commom colors are brown, black, chestnut, grey and pied....

Approximately like the inhabitants of the island of Cuba during the struggle for independence. They believe in Chegevara, Bob Marley, they are inspired by the ideas of justice, and they dream of becoming masters of their land. An extremely dangerous for them religion for today... Today, the Lani tribe has scattered around the island and, instead of hereditary tribal territories, and they stray in the lands of other Papuan peoples.
I shot this on Fuji Reala 100iso film, heavily damaged by the heat and fumes in these swampy rainforests, on Nikon FM2, 35mm series E lens.

...after watching birds all day in the cold wet rain, we only managed about 12 species. World Big Day through the weekend so hoping to see something new today.
FYI: This book is a gift from our very dear friend, Isabella. She bird watched with her late husband in and around Queens/NY. Copyright 1947 complete with handmade tabs for every category of species!!

Il réalise la premiere voie directe de l’éperon Walker des Grandes Jorasses. Il donne le nom à cette voie « La Voie Goussault aux Grandes Jorasses » en hommage à son compagnon Serge Goussault mort d’épuisement à quelques dizaines de mètre du sommet.

The Forces de la Montagne, series in tribute to the famous mountaineer, mountain guide René Desmaison.
He has travelled the mountains of the whole world. Author of numerous expeditions in the Himalayas, the Andes, the Alps.
He makes the first direct route of the Walker spur of the Grandes Jorasses. He gives the name to this route «La Voie Goussault aux Grandes Jorasses» in homage to his companion Serge Goussault who died of exhaustion a few tens of meters from the summit.

Before getting in the clear at River for the NRFF, Andy was radioing the headend to find out where the meet with NRFF would take place. The conductor told him at River which Andy's reply was "I've yet to cross this new bridge at speed"
Milu sums up how we all feel at the moment. Apart from a quick visit to the shops early this morning for supplies, Phill and I haven't been out - not even into the garden. Every where is just too hot at the moment. Hope you are all keeping cool in Europe
