As Christmas Day draws closer, it's very exciting to look at the wrapped gifts and to wonder what's inside each one. In fact, the excitement can sometimes become so intense that you can actually see it swirling around the gifts... 😄
Looking Close on Friday: "Wrapped Gifts" theme
HLCoF
Speaking of gifts, I wish the gift of a warm and festive holiday season to all of my Flickr friends, and a very Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. Thanks for your comments and support throughout the year; it is very much appreciated!
For any who might be interested in how this image was made, by the way, I've added a brief description in the first comment box.
Picture for the theme "Having fun". Not only Vas'ka, we are also happy to see the expression of delight on Vas'ka's face when he sees fried chicken
Vas'ka likes to sit right in front of the TV near the dining table. when we have lunch or dinner.
Thank you very much for visits, favs and comments, it's greatly appreciated!

In the Observation Car on Amtrak trains, some people just let themselves go; none more than this obviously married and sparkling couple, making the most of their time together. It's a great place to meet fellow travellers, forge new 30 minute friendships and soak it all up. I met some fascinating people in Observation cars, I also met some serious weirdo.
I wanted movement and not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement and danger and the chance to sacrifice myself for my love
[Leo Tolstoy]
The language of excitement is at best picturesque merely. You must be calm before you can utter oracles.
Henry David Thoreau.
Henry David Thoreau (July 12, 1817 – May 6, 1862) was an American essayist, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor, and historian. A leading transcendentalist, Thoreau is best known for his book Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings, and his essay "Civil Disobedience" (originally published as "Resistance to Civil Government"), an argument for disobedience to an unjust state. this is the story--an adventure--a journey--a mystery--of a girl.
i've been eating, sleeping, breathing, dreaming about doing this series for almost 2 years now. it is finally starting. there are ups and downs, pain and laughter, heat and exhaustion, excitement and starvation, sea sickness..and a whole lot more. this is my dream, and it is happening...right before my eyes. want to take the journey with us? keep coming back for more!
In a small part of the wood, a red-berried tree was reason for a day of excitement for several species of birds - here: the red-eyed vireo, a bird with a descriptive name that sings a part of it - at least this is how I remember the song: vire-ee vire-oh.
Not much bigger than the leaves of the tree she calls home, this female Shining Flycatcher was darting back and forth with nesting material, preparing to raise the next generation. I managed to capture a shot of her singing on the near-complete nest as we quietly passed by on the boat, gliding along the famous Daintree River in tropical Australia. Taken in FNQ, Australia
After an incredibly dry couple of weeks, we woke up on Saturday to rain so naturally I ran out into the yard with my camera. Great excitement after too many quiet days! :D

Somewhere 70km North of Deniliquin - NSW
Austrália
After the excitement of the photo session with the Plain-wanderers, Philip still wanted to treat us to a few more special sightings.
Bob (nw_birder), our friendly companion for the day, sometimes translator and sometimes even a guide, was kindly concerned about our tight schedule. We needed to get back to Deniliquin, sleep a few hours, and head to Melbourne with some extra time to handle any unexpected issues.
But since we were so excited, we happily thanked Bob, appreciated his concerns, and said yes, continuing into the night.
This was one of the extra gifts we got!

Yes, it is true! The excitement is growing as the big day gets closer! The grand adventure that is Green Mire is almost upon us! Do you have what it takes to discover the truth? What path will the clues take you down?
I love the Monsoon thunderstorms here in Arizona. The excitement of the lightning and the rolling thunder makes me want to grab my camera and tripod and sit outside to enjoy the distant storm. This storm was over Tucson. I am about 18 miles south of town. The storm was creating a lot of wind turbulence so some of the foreground is a little fuzzy. I used 8 second exposure for these shots. I was going to use my new Lightning Bug trigger but decided to use the longer exposure instead. The orange hue at the bottom of the image is caused by city lights in the distance.

The open road ... freedom ... adventure ... excitement. I was riding down "Moonshiner" US 28 from North Carolina to northern Georgia, looking for Warwoman Road, a curvy road that winds through a beautiful forest. I wanted to get at least one road shot, showing the curves and the lush trees all around. Where does this road lead you?
Excitement at Charwell Point on the south shore of Prince Edward County - a rare Red Phalarope! This seafaring swimming sandpiper should be on the ocean, not the Great Lakes. The sighting is the first local record for the species since December 2014.
Seen first in the distance foraging on shore, I assumed it was a Sanderling, the palest sandpiper. When I brought my binoculars up, I realized my mistake and corrected the identification to Red Phalarope.
The bird seemed a bit weak and ignored my presence. But it was feeding successfully in the muck on what looked like tiny leeches, and rapidly metabolizing its food (that's a polite way of saying it crapped). Apparently these birds can put on fat extremely quickly, so hopefully it can refuel and continue on its way before the whole area freezes up.
For those who are interested in such things, phalarope means "coot-footed". This is because the phalarope's feet are not webbed like a duck but instead have the same flat, rounded lobes on their toes as a coot.
