After seeing the EU07 at Bydgoszcz Leśna the real prize we had come to see followed behind by about 15 minutes. Skinest Rail Polska's M62-0023 lead an aggregate rake northbound with a Cargounit SM42 tagged in behind. This M62 is quite interesting as it is an Ex Russian example which until 2018 worked at the Topkinsky cement plant not too far from Novosibirsk. The loco then underwent an overhaul at Daugavpils before ending up working in Poland.

On the edge of the ravine of the Arpaçay Gorge there is this Church of St Gregory, also known as Resimli Kilise (the Church with the Pictures), because of its beautifully coloured frescoes. Built in 1215, during the rule of the Zakarids and commissioned by the wealthy Armenian merchant Tigran Honents, it is the loveliest and best preserved of Ani's remaining churches and has been undergoing heavy restaurations in recent years.
All the murals are painted on the deep royal-blue background of the Sassanid tradition, and most of them depict scenes from the life of Gregory the Illuminator, Tigran Honents, apostle to the Armenians. On its south (riverside) wall is a sundial, a common Armenian feature.
The exterior of the church is spectacularly decorated. Ornate stone carvings of real and imaginary animals fill the spandrels between blind arcade that runs around all four sides of the church.
Set on a lower terrace of the ravine, this is nearly the closest you will come to the Armenian border that is formed by the river Arpaçay itself. You can still see the guard posts on the other side, the ex-Russian ones green, the Turkish ones grey. Before the 1990s when all visits to Ani were conducted with a permit under militairy escort, the atmosphere here was totally silent. But even now you can still enjoy this haunting atmosphere in some parts of the site, especially when there are not too many tourists. We were more than lucky: there were just a couple of visitors that day.

This Hawker Hurricane IIB was delivered to the Soviet Air Force and recovered from a crash site in Russia. The aircraft was rebuilt using parts from a second ex-Russian crash recovery and is now preserved at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, with Royal Air Force serial Z2315 coded JU-E.
Following recent reports today on the BBC news that Russian bombers were intercepted off the cornish coast, I recently found this ex Russian "Ural" truck parked in a local supermarket carpark. The number plate is cornish so maybe it belongs to the "Trelawny Army"

This young polar bear cub following its mother and sibling (see her footprints on the ice), was so curious about a few people taking photos aboard the ex Russian research vessel I was on ,( off the coast of Svalbard within 600 miles of the north pole). Minutes later the mother called and it ran off to her. I would like to think they are all still alive but conditions in the artic are getting serious and many bears now die of starvation because of the lack of ice to hunt from.

Across the years 2010/11 the demand of styled fashion by the ex Russia towards the European Contries, especially the made in Italy, increased consistently.
Italian fashion creators requested to our organization various Vintage accessories, especially shoes, boots & some purses, so that they could restyle them & re-produce accordingly to the luxury tastes of the reach part of population of the Eastern Countries.
The Russian women, in particular were demanding luxury fashion with a class elegant Italian touch maintaining the will for diva's outlooks.
This here was one of the outlooks we proposed (more visible in the following photos in the same album):
- Handmade silk velvet cape, black velvetin silk outside & white silk satin fabric inside, coming from an atelier of the Twenties, with a precious jewelled fastening in real zirconia belonging from the origin to the cape that was adjudged at a public auction
- Black leather hight waist belt from the '80's with chromed metal fastening decorated with rhinestones cabochons.
- Clutch purse trom the Thirties with interwoven gold & silver yarns.
- Vintage fur Chechoslovakian colbac (Hushanka hat)
- Chachemire top & gloves
- High hills stiletto overknee boots (not visible in this pic).
The perfect clothing for our model too as the lil shooting was made in Milano outdoor while it was snowing & ice freezing...

Captain Emerald (Captain America+Green Lantern)
Steven Jordan was a weak and sickly man, who in 1942, wanted to join the army, but was rejected multiple times. At one attempt, he met a doctor, who said that he could help him become a soldier. The doctor gave him a formula to turn into a super soldier to fight the war and the Nazis. While on a mission he was forced crash it into the ocean in Antarctica. He was frozen solid. 70 years later, an alien ship crashed into earth. The alien was a member of the emerald knight core. As he was dying, he sent his ring out to find a worthy successor. It found Jordan, and thawed him out. It then sent him to the alien, who told him that he was found to become a new emerald knight. He became captain emerald, protector of the galaxy.
Thor, the man of thunder (Thor+Superman)
Thor-el, son of Odin-el, was a baby when his world of azton was destroyed by an attack from frost giant. Odin-el sent Thor-el to earth, with a magic hammer. When he landed, he was still a baby, and was found by doctors Jonathan and Martha Kent, who lived in smallvile, New Mexico. They named him Donald Kent and adopted him. Growing up, he had incredible strength, speed, and a strange connection to the weather and storms. When Donald was 17, Jonathan decided to show him. The ship he arrived in, and the hammer that was stored inside the ships hull. Jonathan wasn't able to pick up the hammer, but when Donald picked it up, he felt its power surge in him and he discovered his powers to fly, control the weather, and shoot lightning. Soon after he left home to discover his true origin and power. Eventually, he went to Norway, he discovered a cave that had ancient ruins in it. When he entered the cave, a vision of his father appeared and told him of how his world was destroyed and how he must watch over earth as it's protector. He also told him his birth name, Thor-el. He decided to call himself Thor as a disguise. He moved to new metropolis and got a job as a reporter, where he met Lois foster, who he immediately fell in love with her.

She sent her daughter as a diplomat to America with Trevor. When they got back, she joined the U.N. And stayed there for many months, until an alien ship attacked. It was revealed that Trevor was actually an alien himself, and was sent to scout the planet. When the alien ship was defeated, it exploded, and bathed Diana in radiation. When she recovered, she discovered she had incredible powers. She decided to use her powers for good and defend earth.
Hexanchus (Iron Man+Aquaman)
Billionaire Howard stark was on a cruise when he saw a mysterious woman floating overboard. He rescued her and they fell in love. They had a child, Arthur stark, who followed in his father’s footsteps and became a genius playboy with a gift for inventing. His mother died soon after he was born, and his father when he was a young man. His family friend obidia Marius helped him run the stark industries, which is a weapons manufacturer. On a trip on the Atlantic, his ship was attacked. He was swept out to sea, and discovers he could breath under water. He was eventually rescued by the attackers who blew up his ship. He was forced to build weapons for the terrorists who captured him, but secretly built a suit that would enhance his abilities. He used his suit to escape and return to the mainland. He decided to stop making weapons and become a hero. Naming himself after a shark, he called himself hexanchus, the Latin name for a bull shark.
The Martian Vision (The Vision+Martian Manhunter)
a group of Martians made an android to infiltrate earth’s heroes of earth. When sent to kill them, he observed their heroism and decided to disobey his orders and join them.
Thunderbird (Falcon+The Flash)
Sam Allen was a scientist who was working on experimental flight suit when a bolt of lightning struck him, while he was testing out to the suit. It gave him the ability to fly with wings of light, and travel at super sonic speeds.

Ex Russian military truck
Seen at the 2022 East Midlands Steam and Country Show
A reprocessed version of an earlier posting I made during the first lockdown. The colour balance has been reset and the light levels improved. Well I think so anyway!
The morning of the last day of steam during our RT&P tour was spent by the lineside on the north side of Guilin at the exit from a large freight marshalling yard & by the junction of the branch to the loco shed.
1) First up is China Railways FD 2-10-2 1198 seen departing northwards at 10.40 with a freight train. This was the first of 3 of these regauged ex-Russian FDs that we saw on freights that morning, the others being 1484 and 1047.
2) The trains were made up in the yard by two JF11 2-8-2s. 3772 & 3777. Here 3772 slowly pushes its wagons over the hump alongside large-tendered QJ 6462 that has just come off shed. A warning horn is heard and a passenger train behind a DF3 diesel rushes past towards Guilin station.
3) The QJ heads off light engine to then drop down onto its train in the yard.
4) JF11 3777 shunts out of the yard and is followed by 3772 which then pushes its wagons slowly over hump with FD 1198 waiting on the shed exit road. As the FD heads north JF 3777 passes again.
5) Having picked up its train QJ 6462 powers past northwards with a very mixed freight.
6) FD 1198 backs down to the yard before returning at the head of another mixed freight.
7) Both JFs are seen shunting before QJ 6464 arrives from the north with another freight train. The final scenes are of JF 3772 slowly backing its wagons into the yard.
Later that day we flew to Canton on a brand new Boeing 737 and the following day we were on the 08.30 train to Hong Kong pulled by DF3 0182.

MV Esperanza is a ship operated by Greenpeace. Previous to being a Greenpeace ship it was a fire-fighter owned by the Russian Navy, built in 1984. It was recommissioned in 2000 and launched in 2002 after being named Esperanza ('hope' in Spanish) by visitors to the Greenpeace website. It had undergone a major refit by Greenpeace to make it more environmentally friendly. A new helicopter deck and boat cranes were also added.
The ship has a heavy ice class,[clarification needed] giving it the ability to work in polar regions. It has a top speed of 16 knots and an overall length of 72.3 m. This makes it the fastest and largest of the Greenpeace fleet.
It has been involved in many campaigns, starting with the logging 'save or delete' campaign and currently in the Arctic off the coast of Greenland, protesting against an offshore drilling project by Cairn Energy.

The next instalment of my 1983 China trio with FT&P took place in Taiyuan. We spent time at the lineside south of the station where RM Pacifics were seen on passenger trains to Xian and a QJ on a freight. The wires were up and energised though and electric hauled freights were taking over.
We then visited the Taiyuan Heavy Engineering Works where a couple of SY 2-8-2s were shunting wagons around the factory, the promised narrow-gauge locos were nowhere to be seen.
Following the works we moved to the main line near East station where a JS 2-8-2 and a nice ex-works SY having its boiler drained down were noted. After lunch we walked further along the line to the entrance to East shed where ET7 0-8-0T tank 5507, another ex-works SY and a JS complete with washing hung up to dry were seen! We didn't have a permit for East shed which was a pity because this is where the Xian RM pacifics are serviced.
Our final vist was to the North shed where the line up was mainly QJ 2-10-2s including 1129. Looking through its frames to an adjacent QJ shows how high the boilers are pitched on these engines. An SY is moving about the yard and the following panoramic sequence gives an idea of the size of the shed and workshops. Our first sighting of an ex-Russian Railways FD 2-10-2 was sadly of an unidentified loco being cut up.
The monopoly of QJs in the works and yard is broken by an SY and JS 5304 being coaled (or is that "dusted"), not to mention the long line of electrics which no doubt replaced steam not long afterwards. Our group leader Lou Johnson's thank-you speech is interrupted by a chime whistle and all eyes are on the passing of double-headed QJs on a main line freight.
The final Taiyuan sequence is of JS 2-8-2s 5127 & 5122 making up freight trains in the yards. School was obviously just out as there were kids everywhere including 3 wood-gatherers who clearly were cheeking back the railway worker as they crossed the tracks ahead of the JS!

This aircraft was famously involved in a high profile non-fatal mid air collision during an airshow performance at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford on 24/7/93 when it collided with an identical MIG-29 serial number 925.
