Catalogue d'objets introuvables, Carelman

Le livre de poche, Paris, 1969

Was worried about the tape arriving in time for the show...and simultaneously designing next case...erm...

...and found the themes of dots + birds aligning with some items I picked up at the uber-fabulous curated store KIOSK.

KIOSK is on Spring St. in Soho- upstairs w/ a pink neon arrow pointing up as it's sole demarcation from the street. Inside you find everyday goodies they've gathered from around the world, with a special temporary focus on one place. While I was there it was Hong Kong.

I'm mad for their concept- they make their living traveling the world, finding really clever everyday affordable objects and then share them.

I personally despise this can opener. Give me the thing with two handles and a turny bit any day!

I was somewhat surprised to find that the design is finnish.

Off to Tokyo with work today, for a week. When I was a travel writer/journalist continent-hopping for five years I had a pen, a notebook and a reliable Nikon analog.

Now I have a laptop, mobile telephone, flash stick, headset for mobile, two cameras (digital), headphones with ipod, USB mouse, plug adaptor for Far-East Asia, extension cord with three plugs, mobile phone charger, digicamera battery charger... am I missing anything?

Not bad. Not bad at all. Especially because of the aesthetic graphic design.

The simplicity of multilingual European design.

This commercial from the mid 60's shows a man sporting what can only be descibed as a porn star moustache traipsing through the house, digging up Jaffa bottles from bizaare locations so he can presumably buy more Jaffa.

I don't know if it increased the Jaffa market share at all, but it certainly does describe the persistence of the moustachioed bottle collectors in the public areas of Helsinki today. these men probably saw this commercial when they were kids and said to themselves, "That's what *I* want to be when I grow up!"

Design is everywhere. Even a lowly storm drain at Cranbrook is lovingly crafted.

The tools I always have by me: pincushion, snips and a pot for threads and bits. The background is a little quilt made for me from vintage materials.

Apparently when you're in a hot jazz club, the only thing you want is a cool Jaffa

Happy new year

Thanks @allocacoc! I can't have enough of these PowerCubes! For my desk, home studio (lots of big adapters) and traveling (hotel rooms never have enough sockets ;-)).At NAMM 2016 I already just used the travel version of these and since most gear can do both 110/220v anyway I could use all my Belgian cables and adapters :DUse code "effectsdatabase" for a 15% reduction at bit.ly/2i6CT5P #allocacoc #designnest #kickstarter #dutchdesign #handy #everydaydesign, via Instagram: bit.ly/2iAsZxn

My favourite tissue box design. Cheerful colours!
