This wonderful old window is actually in the bathroom of a great old southern house in Tennessee. Snuck in to get a photo while my sister and I were there at an estate sale! :)

Happy Window Wednesday!

Taken several months ago at an estate sale- the leaded glass windows in this place were lovely!

HWW!

"Mama? May I call you that? I seem to have come home with you for good," said Frank.

Indeed, he had come home with us from an estate sale. He was SO grubby and I was afraid that no one would notice him. Of COURSE I noticed him! All he needed was a bath and a bit of love.

"Of course, Frank! I AM Mama! What is it, my darling little bear?"

"After that last portrait photo, I would like something more . . . well, more . . . what would you call it?"

"Something more formal, or with a background?"

"YES! That's it! May I have a portrait with a background! I have been sitting in an artist's studio for years, and alas! All I saw were the walls. That, and lots of beautiful paintings and ceramics and stuff she did . . . !"

I had to laugh. Frank was in such a lovely place, but I completely understood.

"Yes, Frank! Please sit up tall and I will get your photo in front of the mountain slopes!

Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday!

(Frank is posed in front of an impressionist painting that I did several years ago.)

Dear me! A pony came to our house unexpectedly! We couldn't say no . . . :)

Little Sammy Bear was hiding in a box in an old house we went to for a sale. It was happenstance we saw the "estate sale" sign, and they were already boxing things up, but we knocked and were invited in to poke about! We were the ONLY people there except for the sellers! So we went room to room, looking and digging about, and there, hidden under some art supplies and assorted toys was Sammy, bright eyed and ready to go home with us! He has the cutest little sneakers. I think he could do with a better shirt, but he says the "S" on this shirt stands for Super Sammy! He may be right! As he was quick to point out, he is NOT a fuzzy bear, but we said that was FINE with us! I am sure he will make friends quickly, as there are many bears and other animals here to have fun with! Maybe even a tame dragon or dinosaurs! You just never know what you will find on the banks of the Elk River at Riversong, or in the city of New Orleans at the cottage, Lagniappe!

Smiley is one of the new guys at Lagniappe in New Orleans. He came home with us from an estate sale! WHAT a shock!! AND he called to the turtles and they came right out to welcome him! Now THAT is a talent!! He is under 3 inches tall, so you can imagine how tiny the turtles are!

Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday!

We saw these at an estate sale, and though I loved them for their uniqueness, I didn't purchase them.

New Orleans, LA

Just browsing through some of the estate sales photos in my archives! :)

A really peachy glamour bedroom in a house where we went to an estate sale in Huntsville, AL!

Happy Window Wednesday!

Wonderful staircase we saw in a fabulous old home in New Orleans at an estate sale!

A tiny treasure I found at an estate sale!

Along with the cloisonné egg and lots of wonderful ribbons for projects!

Because I'm pretty sure Basket Weaving 101 would not look THIS complicated! LOL!

Found this gem at a recent sale- couldn't resist!

At a recent estate sale we discovered nearby, there was a LOT of great old 60s and 70s fabric! I just fell in love with it! It turned out I kind of "knew" the lady who was helping her uncle with the sale- we worked together ages ago!- and she wanted me to pick out the fabrics I wanted! SUCH fun! I don't know what I will do yet, but I feel a project coming on!

Wherever you are!! :)

Found this little set of china sake glasses at a sale in New Orleans; their design is odd because though it looks like a handle on the side, it is basically a hole that carries any liquid away and down through the bottom on the tiny cup! Still not sure what is supposed to happen! But I LOVED the design, so here they are!!

Tchotchkes, bric-a-brac, knick-knacks: these were once treasured possessions but their owners have passed away and now they're up for sale. The faces of this group in the window of an estate sale shop seem to say it all. Oh, the humiliation. One photo a day. (355/366) Bayside, Queens, NYC -- December 20, 2020

Beautiful porcelain figurine made in Italy by Vittorio Sabadin - seen at an estate sale. No, I didn't buy it- it was $700!

Hats are always fun, right?!!

This is ALMOST an accidental piano/organ purchase, but NOT quite- because as it turns out, I bought it on purpose!! I saw it in the pictures for an estate sale . . . but you know- how could I need one more piano or organ, since I have 2 baby grands, 2 uprights and a pump organ . . . ? This wonderful old piece of piano/organ art was out on the back porch at an estate sale and they made me a price I couldn't refuse! It is going to be a fun and fabulous art project, I am pretty sure! And bless Ken's heart for putting up with me in all my whims!

I wish we had somebody to help us get it off the truck . . . :)

Wonderful old Oldsmobile at an estate sale! Seemed like everybody had to reach up and make a swipe in the dust that had gathered on the hood!

Found this little ornament in the bottom of a box of wrapping paper that I bought last weekend! I NEEDED this! :)

Little Raggedy Andy was in with the bears we have rescued! YAY! I think he looks decidedly happy to be out of that metal storage building!! :)

(NO, I can't begin yet to count the number of teddy bears we rescued! OMG! Stay tuned! Really! Today was the FOURTH truckload of stuff for me to pick up, and finally, I am done!)

Estate Sale....."Sold"

---Shades of another breed'---

A lovely old umbrella made of oiled paper - lucky for me! It was in a wonderful ceramic umbrella stand I bought recently. Though the stand has a broken edge, and the old umbrella is somewhat chewed up, I love it all the more!

Well, it COULD be! This mirror was given to me by a lady who owns/runs some of the local estate sales we go to! I love it! It's huge, and may just stay where it is in one of our outdoor "areas!" :)

March 10, 1876, Alexander Gramham Bell made the first telephone call to his assistant. Mr. Bell’s voice was transmitted over wires to his assistant. “Mr. Watson, come here…I want you.” Working on the machine from another floor, Mr. Watson heard the first phone call. Thomas Augustus Watson had dropped out of school at the age of 14 and has been a carpenter and then a bookkeeper before being hired at a Boston machine shop. With a stroke of luck and skill, he soon became etched into the history of the world.

As stated in Wikipedia:

“Watson was an inventor of many accessories for the telephone. He tried to make a signal device for the telephone, because no user could stand near the phone all day, waiting for the call. At first, he made a hammer, which had to hit the diaphragm, then he made a buzzer, after several experiments

with signaling devices Watson made a ringer, and his (invention) the polarized ringer was manufactures 60 years.”

Now, on to some info about the otter above… My husband and I like to visit Estate Sales. A few years back, I found the walnut wood carved otter from above at one of the sales. We both loved the piece touched by skilled hands and made of black walnut, a wood we loved. As I inspected the carved surface of the sweet little otter, it reminded us of our numerous Alaskan vacations to the 49th state. The price was $28.00 and we were eager to make it a part of our home.

After we got in the car, I noticed the info on the bottom. You can see a shot of the bottom in my next photo. The label stated: “T.W. Winternitz, Otter, V, 85, Black Walnut, with the letters TWW carved in the wood”. My mind was racing, and I wanted to start my research about my latest find.

After a few clicks of my mouse, I discovered that T.W. Winternitz was the carver of my new found treasure. He was lived from 1916 -2011. His full name was Thomas Watson Winternitz and his grandfather was the Thomas Augustus Watson, assistant to Alexander Gramham Bell. Now we refer to our carving as “Mr. Watson” and he is a proud member of our home. Without a doubt, he is the perfect pet and a great reminder of our many adventures. Hope you have enjoyed this little fraction of history.

"Jadeite, Jadite, or Jade-ite? No matter how you spell it, jadeite is that gorgeous green milk glass found in old homes, estate sales, flea markets and antique malls all over the U.S. and Canada. First created in the 1930s, jadeite is used for all types of things, but most commonly dishware and kitchenware. It first became popular in the Victorian era, then fell out of style for a time until World War II when glass companies found it could be stylish, plus affordable, to make. Now it’s trendy again."

This quote is from, and more info is at

This "jadite" is 1/6th scale, made of plastic. The hutch is a repainted Gloria piece, also plastic.

At the estate sale in Franklin TN, I found this WONDERFUL mossy set of chairs with a small glass table! TOO pretty to sit on or disturb- I actually bought it as a work of art and spent part of Saturday setting it up in our little courtyard! While Ken may have been appalled at first, and my sister tried to talk me out of it, they have both decided it was "the thing to do," knowing how my view on the world works! Yes, I love it!

All you have to do is take pictures of what you are doing this weekend and post them in the group with a description.- going to an estate sale, show us; going to get groceries, show us; going on a picnic, show us; going camping, show us. Whatever you do from Friday (9-9-2016) through Monday (0-12-2016), take a picture & post it. It doesn't matter what it is, just get out & do something! And have fun doing it!

Mr. & Mrs. Teddy Bear were singing so happily! We didn’t know them personally but it looked like they just got married and were joyous! Lovely to see! HTBT!

Recent estate sale purchase :)

Recently, we went to an estate sale that was the home of an artist, and WOW at the things we saw! I have to admit I felt right at home! Many great works of art on the house and fence!! An amazing place! I hope when I am gone, someone can exclaim so, too, and love the work!

A “new” lady in waiting!” This little half doll was part of a collection I bought at a recent estate sale in a grand old house in New Orleans. Her simplicity gives her such elegance.

She is posed in front of a vintage leather-bound menu I purchased several years ago. The "floor" is a piece of vintage fabric that was in the attic of the house where I found the collection of half dolls!

Lovely dishes at an estate sale- makes you wonder who had them and why!

Sometimes I DO buy useful things at the estate sales. :)

Well, the small jars are actually for marbles . . . :)

These are the dolls I got! 75% off their original price the only really weird thing is that I don't have many shoes. After 4 days of being picked up and sat back down, the dolls tended to loose them.

The dolls had no boxes and were only displayed never played with. Let the identification begin!!!

Tiny treasures from one of the estate sales we went to recently. None of these items is more than 3 inches tall. :)

Oh yes! Actually saw this in a very elegant closet at a recent estate sale- so no, these aren't mine. :)

Or- follow the shag carpeted staircase!

Taken in a wonderful house of vintage stuff at an estate sale in Belle Meade, TN

Info about Otter carving, "Mr. Watson"

We went to an estate close-out this morning, and found a ton of cool stuff -- all for cheap! I love this dish -- it'll be good for The Mid Century Supper Club. Or to throw papers in. Or something!

I overheard two little bears talking at an estate sale, where they were awaiting adopted:

"So, what is that on your ear, Mate? Did you get a pierced ear?!"

"Nah! I just woke up with this thing! Hurts to pull it! I expect I am going to have to have it surgically removed . . . "

"Whoa! So sorry!"

Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday!

Still waiting for the results on my abdominal test- I'd say I was feeling better, but now Ken & I have come down with a terrible cold or flu bug! Miserable! We kept the 2 grands this past weekend overnight, and I bet we got school kid germs that jumped off on us! Ick!

Stay well, everybody!! Wash your hands after reading this! :) :)

An old pillowcase and some glass peppers that I bought at a sale a while back. :)

From an estate sale this past weekend.

I guess I'm just saying I am NO Mary Mary, with a garden growing! The only sure fire way for ME to have flowers is to buy them as ribbons, or Ken might bring some in! :) Got these spools of ribbon at a recent sale!

With Jules in mind, who grows the most spectacular sunflowers!

With the 24mm lens I picked up yesterday, as well

Got these from the icky estate sale yesterday. I was expecting her to price them at about 10 bucks a piece (a canister set was $65!), but they were a buck fifty. So I got them.
