Like a magic potion, these are essential oils in tiny bottles. The bottles are a little over 1/2 inch tall. I use these 4 oils every day! The front one in blue is turmeric and it is an amber color. It's so pretty!!! I put 2 drops of each of these into a capsule and take it like a vitamin. For this pic, I removed all the lids, placed the bottles on a mirror, and put my phone behind them for a light. I take all my macro pics with my lens in reverse. This one also includes a small extension tube. Having the aperture wide open gives that chunky bokeh. I love chunky bokeh!

My mom made this for me, knowing my love for owls and essential oils. I can open this little guy up and place a drop of whatever type of essential oil I’d like. I usually prefer lavender, it helps me relax. It’s a wonderful gift, one that is practical and fun. :)

I saw smoke coming out of it and it smelled real pretty.

Essential oils

These are Neal's Yard's essential oils in their distinctive (small) blue glass bottles. Perfect for using with an aromatherapy diffuser. The scent couples with the sound of bubbling water and gentle mist to create the perfect atmosphere for a mindful moment :-)

I spent an amazing few hours at Scottish Lavender Oils. They are so dedicated to nature and not to profit!

It's a Banksia Nut, from a banksia tree, carved with a hole on top, to tip essential oils in for fragrance. Comes with a very small cork stopper.

I'm trying to be more mindful of being good to myself. Years ago I had a "Words of Wisdom" calendar which had a deep thought for every single day. One of those deep thoughts went something like: Within us all there is a tree; we need to nourish it and make it strong by giving it attention every day...

Basically, don't forget to take care of yourself! These are 4 essential oils I take every day...2 drops of each in a capsule taken like a vitamin. Tons of benefits to my body and mind! The dripping one is turmeric, which has a cool color. Don't forget to take care of your mental health too. That's just as important. I like to look at pretty things so I tend to take a lot of photos I find pretty to look at. That means lots of sparkles and bokeh for me! I like a lot of color too. It makes me happy! (I was also mindful of not wasting this precious oil! Don't worry! ;) )

HMM!

Several weeks ago, I post an old picture of the Lab. There is thrice that amount there now. A couple days ago, a flickr friend told me a story about her homemade cologne and a perfect stranger. There is a good selection of essential oils and fragrance oils. On the left is a selection of powders and clays. Things like Kelp, Red Clover pedel powder, dandilion powder, bladderwack powder and others. I made soaps, lotions, butters, massage oils, Masks, lip blams and even a bug repellent. Yes that's my Wizard hat on the right.

(Corymbia citriodora). The essential oil of the lemon-scented gum mainly consists of citronellal (80%). Unrefined oil from the lemon eucalyptus tree is used in perfumery, and a refined form of this oil is used in insect repellents, especially against mosquitoes. (Source: Wikipedia)

The catalogue of the plants in the garden of George Clifford (1885-1760) at Heemstede, written by great Carolus Linnaeus, Hortus Cliffortianus (1638), was beautifully illustrated by Jan Wandelaar (1690-1759). One of his finely-detailed illustrations is of Sigesbeckia orientalis. Linnaeus and his patron no doubt enjoyed those engravings.

Johann Siegesbeck (1686-1755), for whom the plant is named, and Linnaeus later fell out. Siegesbeck as not a few other botanists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries disagreed with and were even outraged at Linnaeus's ideas on plant sexuality (www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/26208808473/in/photoli...) and he lost no time in denouncing the latter's work. It has been said - incorrectly - that In retaliation, Linnaeus named this 'smelly' plant for his new enemy (but see the last comment below by Aleid Offerhaus). Sigesbeckia orientalis was used in traditional medicine for a variety of skin diseases, in particular for the treatment of syphilis and other 'bad blood'...

I think the small flowers quite pretty. They're intriguing too because of the 'hairy' outer bracts. Those hairs are in fact small glands which produce a sticky essential oil. Seeds of most of the aster family are dispersed by animals by way of their little attaching 'hooks'. But Sigesbeckia orientalis rather uses that adhering oil. Touch the bracts yourself to test this out...

PS I couldn't identify this plant but Jos van der Hoek, highly knowledgeable gardener, told me what it is.

Still following doctor's orders and taking it easy. The redness in my leg seems a bit better today, so maybe it is working. I find it so hard to sit still.

It is nearly the season of lavender again. The lovely smell and the deep purple colour of lavender is very addictive, and when the light is right and the sky plays ball it yields a wonderful image. I reached into the archives for this golden hour shot from my local fields.

I will keep an eye on it this year again and if I could raise enough funds may even get tempted for a quick trip to France. I am happy to set up a collaboration with any organisations willing to contribute and seeking for amazing imagery.

This is a legal "drug" that you can buy in New Zealand. It is supposed to give you a buzz or it might fu_k you up.

I believe this is a diffuser necklace. The wolf's mouth is where the essential oil is placed. It still carries a scent despite my attempts to remove it.
