I'm still making my images using an old and simple 2009 version of photo manager software produced by ACDSee. And during the last two decades I've used it to produce 37,538 original image variations, only 4589 of which appear on Flickr - the rest sit on my hard-drive and now serve as an almost endless source of raw material for new abstracts. Not sure what to do about using AI to produce artwork. This old guy may just continue to use his 2009 copy of ACDSee. Cheers. H
...
Candide recent years with pictures that seem now so ridiculous, feeling completely unable to handle such a subject ... I'll try with this series to transcribe what I have so daring capture during our gathering on. Dieppe Sunday frosty morning but warmed by so many endearing, quiet, upright and determined to demonstrate his refusal to all authoritarian thoughts, fanatical and murderous.
Between a huge pain and paradoxically indescribable joy to be a man among other men defending what we most precious our freedom to think for yourself ...!
and our thirst to allow all derision.
Even my ridiculous pictures!
The view looking down… this arm looks thin but it’s capable!!! :)
It was probably the most impressive experience I’ve ever had but it was not easy. I will never forget the robotic arm ride while holding equipment that is three times my weight. The slightest movement increased its inertia (thankfully Megan is the world champion robotic arm operator). Visually it was a bit like holding a fridge upside down, while holding on with my feet over a 300 km cliff face #humblebrag. Quite a few things didn’t go according to plan but I am immensely proud of the team that fought to find solutions. #dreamteam. Shane exudes professionalism at all times, the ground teams and control centre were on point, and then there were our incredible colleagues driving the robotic arm and getting us into the suits (and out again). I might still be on an adrenaline high, but I don’t think you can find a better team. We are going to try to get some rest and consider the follow-up operations.

This is one of the animals I most hoped to see in Brazil. I had one as a pet back in the late 70s/early 80s. It's a tegu, a large relative of the small whiptail and racerunner lizards we have here in the U.S. This is a big male, probably about four feet long. The several tegu species are the Americas' analogs to African and Asian monitor lizards. They're omnivores, and will eat basically anything they can find - fallen fruit, insects, rodents, birds, eggs, unwary chihuahuas, you name it. They have been captive bred (unlike mine way back when, which was certainly wild caught) and if you have room - a lot of room - they can make decent reptile pets. They're smart, and can become fairly tame; mine was quite mellow and never aggressive (which was good, because they have powerful jaws). However, they're big, and not everyone can handle an active reptile this size, so a lot of former pets are given up by their owners, or, worse, are dumped in the wild. In Florida, they've actually become invasive, unfortunately. Anyway, seeing several of these absolutely gorgeous animals in the wild in their native habitat was a thrill.

it has been over 30 years since I had to write an academic essay, to say it's not going well might be an understatement.

At the start of this year when Graham’s 318 Coffee House in Geneva reopened after major renovations I popped in to tell the owner Bob how much I admired the new look. I mentioned that I especially enjoyed the meandering path that leads to the front door. I wondered aloud if it was deliberately made with such tight curves in order to slow folks down, as in some Japanese garden designs where paths can sometimes take an unexpected or abrupt turn in an effort to slow down the walker and make them more conscious of their surroundings. Bob replied that while that’s a beautiful principle that he was unfamiliar with, the real reason for the tight meander here is more functional: should the path from the sidewalk to the front door be a straight line, it would be too steep a grade for wheelchairs to make. I found this an interesting example of how our manufactured surroundings are a vibrant mix of both the aesthetic and the practical.
