I'm predicting everyone's first thought on this image: "where's the monorail?" Obviously there isn't one because it was a test shot in preparation for when the monorail finally did pass by. I liked the image so much that I decided to keep it. I decreased the sharpness a bit to evoke a dreamy vibe.

It's truly awesome that a show this good goes of every single night during the holiday season. It is arguably my favorite fireworks show of the year.

Thanks for looking!

Wide evening Monorail shot.

Another tribute to the launch of the last flight of Space Shuttle Atlantis which is now successfully in Earth orbit. I thought that this abstract view evokes an orbital view.

Like many people, I watched the launch on the NASA website while at work. It was pouring rain here at the time of the launch so going out to see it wasn't an option.

Safe journey Atlantis!

My favorite way to travel when at Walt Disney World. The WDW Monorail System operates on a span of 14.7 miles and reaches speads of up to 40 mph. The EPCOT line, shown above, is comprised of 7.4 miles of track in the sky and brings guests to and from EPCOT and the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC).

There's going to be a whole lot of these before this Festival ends. Epcot just looks so beautiful this time of year that you can't help but spend most of your time photographing it.

From our return back to Epcot. We definitely are out of practice with that long hike around the lagoon in the sweltering heat. Or we’re just getting old...

I need to be thinking warm thoughts today, another sub-freezing day in Dallas with the outlook for more snow tonight.

This is one of those - in the right place at the right moment - shots. I remember looking down at the water and seeing the sunset reflection and the monorail track. It was the end of the day for us that day and we were leaving so I was trying to catch up with my group, so not a lot of time to wait around for a monorail to come by (I've waited as long as 10 minutes for one to come by before). Well, as luck would have it, sure enough I heard that whirring monorail sound that we all know and love - so I whipped out the camera and was able to get one off. If I would have had more time to adjust the settings, I probably would have taken a practice shot, which more then likely would have resulted in stopping down a couple f-stops and bringing the EV comp to 0. This probably would have resulted in a higher ISO (I was shooting in ISO Auto mode with minimum shutter speed 1/40, actually set up for the Three Caballeros boat ride in Mexico) but would have been fine because at least it would have been properly exposed and probably a little sharper. All in all though, I was able to turn a quick underexposed snap shot into something decent, I think.

Quick Exif:

Exposure: 1/40

Aperture: f/1.4

Focal Length: 50mm

ISO: 640

Seems to be a common shot we all take from the same location.

The torii at the Japanese pavilion, EPCOT Center, Walt Disney World Resort, Orllando, Florida.

After the Global Countdown goes around World Showcase Lagoon, Auld Lang Syne plays to epic fireworks (but you can't hear it because of explosions and people with paper horns). It is one of the more beautiful scenes at EPCOT, and the last thing you can photograph in this fireworks set before the show goes apocalyptic and your camera shows nothing but white!

Thanks again to Don Sullivan for letting me borrow his fancy ND filter kit for the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8!

When sitting in the front seat of the boat ride, the red glow of the aquaculture exhibit in The Land needs to be photographed. Press L; it's worth it!

I keep looking at the shots I took on this past trip; awesome firework shots, new takes on old things, strong hdr, you name it. But I can't get past my favorites being moments such as this.

Cool water fountain details to help beat the heat. Here in Northeast Florida, it was a degree cooler today, 97 F (36 C). At least today we are getting cooled down with some intense thunderstorms.

IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth premiered on October 1, 1999. Paul and I were fortunate to have been at EPCOT Center for the inaugural show. It was an instant favorite for both of us and we have seen it literally hundreds of times. Each time being just as special as the last.

This image was taken on May 1, 2010 while we waited for the lights to dim for the opening introduction to start the show...

"Good evening. On behalf of Walt Disney World, the place where dreams come true, we welcome all of you to Epcot and World Showcase. We've gathered here tonight around the fire as people of all lands have gathered for thousands and thousands of years before us... to share the light... and to share a story. An amazing story as old as time itself, but still being written. And though each of us has our own individual stories to tell, a true adventure emerges when we bring them all together as one. We hope you enjoy our story tonight: Reflections of Earth."

Thank you all for your sincere out pouring of support over the last few days. You've made the days more tolerable and comforting.

Here’s a shot I don’t often take: from across the Lagoon. I think we were near Japan when I took this one. Thanks for looking 😀

I figured it had been 3 or 4 times since I went back to the old reliable that is the Japan pavilion's 2nd floor for Illuminations shooting, so it was time to visit an old friend. I had never been up there with an ND filter, and I also used the "country shutter" here, covering the lens with my hat while there were no bursts happening. And let me say, 71 seconds is a long time to not have any kids bump into your tripod! Thanks for lookin', and have a great day!

The premier of the Tron Legacy movie is this week! This makes the 21st Monorail Monday shot the fourth and final of the Tronorail series.

This shot, of the allusive yellow side of the Tronorail, was taken from the Tram-way on the walk back to my car.

On September 25, 2011, I had the privilege to watch two displays of the United States Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team with Spaceship Earth as a backdrop. This is the first of a few images that I'm going to put up over the coming weeks. Katie Marino joined me to watch the second display and I'm excited to see what she captured.

These Airmen displayed incredible concentration, precision and professionalism with every precise move. After the last display, one member of the team asked me if I could take photos of the entire team lined up. What an honor. I'm looking forward to sharing these images with them.
