At a nearby lake, I sighted a pair of these birds quite by accident - assumed they were male / female. They were perched quietly on some fences in an area which had a Shikra, couple of Kingfishers and lots of babblers. There were probably some rats / moles in the fields and the Owlet made 2-3 rounds to check for them before diving.

I sat on the roadside under a tree to get a better view when one of them flew past this spot to get a view and perched again. It made an diving attempt to get one of the rodents and missed it, but gave me a couple of good shots.

These are resident birds in the country and usually active during the crepuscular times and late nights.

When I checked these birds last week, they are gone as their habitat was destroyed due to real estate development . A large ugly boundary fence was setup and the trees - home of these owlets - were destroyed.

Third and last post in my brief landscape set is this shot taken at White Sands National Monument. In 2019 the monument was "upgraded" to a National Park.

We need to encourage more bees in to our gardens! All it takes is to plant more bee loving flowers in our garden, like Cerinthe, which i am told by the bees is a favourite of theirs :)

Great Horned Owl

The Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) with its long, earlike tufts, intimidating yellow-eyed stare, and deep hooting voice, the Great Horned Owl is the quintessential owl of storybooks. This powerful predator can take down birds and mammals even larger than itself, but it also dines on daintier fare such as tiny scorpions, mice, and frogs. It’s one of the most common owls in North America, equally at home in deserts, wetlands, forests, grasslands, backyards, cities, and almost any other semi-open habitat between the Arctic and the tropics.

Ordinarily I'd clone out those power lines in a heartbeat, but studying this composition, I realised they were essential to a story. If trees could think, both in life and in death, would each 'tree' seen here be envious of each other? One, grown strong and mighty, cut to have use carrying electricity, but denied it's old age; the other, wild and free, yet cruelly misshaped by weather and environment, with no future. other than an ignominious death? (I can hear someone out there saying, "Shut up, Fergal...it's just an ugly tree and a power pole. Get a life.") Seen at Aghinish, Co. Mayo, Ireland.

Another hard to see bird in the grasslands, but not uncommon. They are quite small, the size of a man's fist or a tad bigger. They tend to stick to grassy areas in the presence of other animals or humans, but come out in the open on red soil during evenings or mornings.

In the grass, we couldn't ID the bird since it was far and could positively confirm it only on computer. So we used a call to confirm it and played a wrong call - that of a Jungle Bush Quail. This bird and few others responded several times and looked for it. But strangely, the jungle bush quail wasn't sighted since it wasn't the habitat. There is still some debate about the id though.

Happy World Sparrow Day! Let's celebrate these delightful creatures and raise awareness about their conservation. Together, let's work towards creating a more sparrow-friendly environment. 🐦💚 #WorldSparrowDay #Conservation!

A resident sparrow that apparently migrates from Kashmir to Gujarat during winters. This is a subspecies of the common House Sparrow and looks quite different to those that I see in my balcony everyday! I love sparrows and was so happy to see these.

I am not sure of the story about sparrows migrating, but there is very little information on these subspecies on the internet.

A bison bull (the largest land animal in North America) strides across the mixed-grass prairie with a pronghorn doe (the fastest land animal in North America) in the background. I was lucky to see this shot coming. We were watching this mature bull stride across the prairie and I could see that, if he continued on the same path, he would pass between us and the pronghorn. When he reached the right spot a single click was enough to get the shot. Badlands National Park, SD.

A few more Badlands wildlife images to come...

Sometimes nature puts on a breathtaking show! While I may not have had my DSLR, fortunately I had my trusty point and shoot :)

Welcome to to the beach, a haven for dog walkers and coffee drinkers. A special congratulations on picking up your dog mess, only to lob it into the dunes and leave it in a bag for the next hundred years. Shame on you........

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is a large park with an eminent garden in Shinjuku and Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally a residence of the Naitō family in the Edo period. Afterwards, it became a garden under the management of the Imperial Household Agency of Japan. It is now a park under the jurisdiction of the national Ministry of the Environment.

The shogun bequeathed this land to Lord Naitō (daimyo) of Tsuruga in the Edo period who completed a garden here in 1772. After the Meiji Restoration the house and its grounds were converted into an experimental agricultural centre. It then because a botanical garden before becoming an imperial garden in 1879. The current configuration of the garden was completed in 1906. Most of the garden was destroyed by air raids in 1945, during the later stages of World War II. The garden was rebuilt after the war.

The jurisdiction over the Imperial Palace Outer Garden and the Kyoto imperial garden was transferred to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (now part of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) in 1947.

On May 21, 1949 the garden became open to the public as "National Park Shinjuku Imperial Gardens". It came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment in January 2001 with the official name "Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden".

We have so many entrepreneurs and we desperately need people to discover something to replace plastic which is ruining our oceans, our lands, humanity, animal life, plant life, and climate. It is imperative that we are serious about this and find a solution immediately. Our children will suffer even more from our lack of caring, and if we don't do something soon it will be catastrophic!

The plastic pollution-free world is not a choice but a commitment to life - a commitment to the next generation.

Many people associate lions with the grasslands of the Masai Mara or Serengeti. While those areas are great for seeing lions, there are also other environments where they can be seen. This image was captured in the Chobe National Park, Botswana during an extended drought in August 24.

Located in Arizona, Grand Canyon National Park encompasses 277 miles (446 km) of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands. The park is home to much of the immense Grand Canyon; a mile (1.6 km) deep, and up to 18 miles (29 km) wide. Layered bands of colorful rock reveal millions of years of geologic history. Grand Canyon is unmatched in the incomparable vistas it offers visitors from the rim.

Taken at Saint John's Chapel, in Skopelos.

This is another shot of the egret I chased all over the place. I do think he enjoyed the "game" of playing tag with a human. And I was a sucker to go along with it. But little does he know, I got a pretty cool shot out of the deal. I just love this one of him perched and looking quite comfy in his natural environment.

Hope your week is going well. I am off work the rest of the week and plan to enjoy a nice long weekend in my natural environment......lol. Cheers :-)
