The Cap San Diego was restored mainly by the labour of enthusiasts and laid-off dock workers, and is kept operational to date. Most of the time, the Cap San Diego is moored at the port of Hamburg where visitors can access virtually all areas of the ship from the bridge to the engine.

A ploughing match is a contest between people who each plough part of a field. Nowadays there are usually classes for horse-drawn ploughs and for tractor ploughing. Points are awarded for straightness and neatness of the resulting furrows.

Such peanuts lovers they are constantly around any feeders in the fall making their presence known by the noisy calls. I love to observe them as they fly and grab the seeds or peanuts.

This shot epitomises both the highs and lows of being a rail enthusiast perfectly, but quite the capture for 2023. There is quite the story behind this one too! The subject is a pair of ED's - recently acquired from Govia Thameslink Southern 73202 and 73136 "Mhairi" on the 6Y42 14.05 Hoo Junction-Eastleigh East Yard departmental consisting of a healthy load of 23 JNA and MLA ballast wagons, seen at the small hamlet of Northbrook during twilight hour shortly after 20.30, nearly 3 hours later than its booked time.
I had originally arrived at this location some four and a half hours earlier in anticipation of catching this working in the fine afternoon sunlight; by this stage everything seemed to be running to time and as expected. Our woes began when the ED's stopped at Feltham Junction for 50 minutes - at this stage several passenger workings in that area were also on stop therefore, despite the obvious delay, nothing seemed out of the ordinary providing the ED's kept pushing on, which they subsequently did albeit with an unexplained 15 minute stop just outside Staines.
Things became more concerning when 6Y42 came to an abrupt halt outside Woking station. A phone call to 'control' (thanks to our on-location informant) ascertained a braking issue with the ED's and it also transpired this was the reason for the stoppage at Feltham too - our dire situation was confirmed when there had been no movement for over half an hour; with this news to hand, the gallery called the shots and left feeling bitterly disappointed, making the long walk of shame back to civilisation (anyone who's visited this spot will know its not the quickest or easiest spot to reach).
It was only once we had reached our vehicles that 'control' provided some unexpected news to my informant - 6Y42 was back on the move and it was hurtling down the main! We were back on - it was a no-brainer, the last men standing (whittled down to 3 from 6) were going back. Things appeared to be going well until another issue and a prolonged stoppage became apparent outside Basingstoke - gutter!
My informant left at this stage, but I was determined to persevere a little longer more in hope than in anticipation, after all it had already been resurrected three times earlier and I was clutching on to the belief it could go again, however the late-evening sun was now against me, dropping like a stone towards the horizon line.
I was about to call it quits one final time (I had already begun packing up) when Y42 started moving again. I wasn't going to leave without a shot now regardless of the conditions. However, haste was needed with it still some 30 minutes away and having to allow two passenger workings to pass. The informant returned having made it back to his car before getting the nod (again).
Finally, at the ungodly hour (photographically) of 20:35 and with the light just about holding out, the 73 duo finally passed us exactly 175 minutes late. I could finally make the walk of triumph back in the knowledge that my mission had been accomplished, arguably with a better result than expected with hindsight. At 5 hours spent at this location, this has to be a personal record for the longest I've had to wait (or waste - depending if you are a glass half full or empty kind of person) for a single working. Special mention goes to fellow-Flickrite Wetbag for the gen and for keeping my sanity in check, and to MJ for the initial headsup which faciliated the move.
Admittedly I was disappointed of the late-running and the low-light, but thankfully Lightroom has polished the image up immaculately to the extent that I'm absolutely chuffed with the end-product! It will be very difficult to better a shot of this working. The reward is even more satisfying now as the unreliability of the 73’s on this working meant they were dropped a few weeks later, meaning this was the only occasion I will likely capture them on a class 6 freight.

The enthusiastic family members came to have fun in winter snow at Canmore Nordic Center in Alberta. Canada.
This properly dressed and appropriately tipsy guy was eager to celebrate St. Patricks Day and take part in all parts of the parade. And did not mind at all when security pushed him back to the sidelines
The McMinns Lagoon Recreation Reserve is situated in 41 hectares of unspoilt wetland, near Humpty Doo in the Darwin rural area, Northern Territory, Australia
It is a natural jewel amongst the Municipality's Reserves. It offers nature enthusiasts and bird watchers alike a wide spectrum of bird life and butterfly activity all year round.
The Reserve holds a comprehensive Bird Sanctuary status and contains one of the largest varieties of flora and fauna habitats in the Northern Territory.
The Lookout is a well kept lawn area with picnic tables and a light at night for people to relax and unwind whilst looking over the scenic lagoon. A very popular lunch spot for many, it is also a favoured location for professional and amateur photographers and videographers. A perfect venue for bush weddings.
There are a number of walking tracks including "Scotty's Walkway" that take visitors around the lagoon and through the surrounding woodland.
The Reserve is located amidst the rural properties and winding roads of McMinns Lagoon area.

(EN) The curved basement gallery of Alicante's Provincial Palace offers one of the city's quieter art experiences — a circular space of polished marble, clerestory light and white walls that follow a gentle arc. Three large-format oils occupy the wall, their warm ochres and golds answering the warm tones of the stone floor.
The central work commands the room: a luminous depiction of a 1920s touring car rendered in broad, confident strokes, its golden coachwork glowing against a background of tropical vegetation and figures in period dress. The painting reads less as transport and more as theatre — movement, colour and Mediterranean light held in a single frame. Finally, the curved architecture quietly amplifies everything it contains.

As photography enthusiasts we are each drawn to a specific genre. Granted we admire all sorts of pictures, but there is a certain class of images we particularly are drawn to. Some like portraiture, some still-life, others formal landscape photography, and some street...
It was a while before I found myself admiring New Topographics photos. I found my admiration was in their honesty and utilization of space. I found that I related to their aesthetic because I was immersed in that type of scenario all around me. Intentionally regular and bland and not necessarily "pretty" I found them quite worthy of my attention.
I found myself being a more honest photographer when I adapted the New Topographics style and followed their tenets. Then one day I went back through my SD cards and found that I had been taking such pictures on many occasions without knowing it.
There is quite some overlap between New Topographics and Uncommon Places picture making, but at their cores they are very distinct.
With this particular scene I tried to push the envelope and present a landscape far beyond the aesthetics of 'calendar' pictures.

Enthusiasts and tourists, at Minehead railway station for the West Somerset Railway Autumn steam gala.
An enthusiast snapper is about to get a nice surprise in the form of a Rail-Head Treatment Train, which has snook up on Leicester's Platform 1.
He needs to hurry though - it won't be hanging around and, with the crew change swiftly completed, will soon be heading back in the Kettering direction on its 12 hour roundabout journey from the East Midlands to London.
The service is the previous day's 11.42pm Toton TMD - West Hampstead Thameslink (3J91), with DB Cargo 'Sheds' 66060 and 66161 topping and tailing the watery-jet consist.

Life can be dangerous for a small bird. Yellow Warblers have occasionally been found caught in the strands of an orb weaver spider’s web.
This is Muralt Bluff Prairie State Natural Area where I do volunteer work to restore and maintain this and several other State Natural Areas and Prairie Enthusiast properties. Fresh air, camaraderie and photo ops are my payback. I don't need "weed, whites or wine" as the song suggests, but a cold beer after a prescribed burn is always nice.

Die Südostbayernbahn hat hier flexibel auf einen erhöhten Fahrgaststrom aufgrund der Streckensperre zwischen Rosenheim und Freilassing reagiert und mehr Sitzplatzkapazität auf der Ausweichroute angeboten. Am 01. November 2024 hatten sich bei Gausburg neben mir noch etliche weitere Fotografen eingefunden, um die 218 498 vor der RB 27985 zu dokumentieren.
The short-term use of the class 218 in front of double-decker coaches over All Saints' Day 2024 attracted numerous railway enthusiasts from near and far to the line between Mühldorf and Freilassing. Südostbayernbahn reacted flexibly to the increased passenger flow due to the line closure between Rosenheim and Freilassing and offered more seating capacity on the alternative route. On 1 November 2024, several other photographers had gathered at Gausburg alongside me to document 218 498 in front of RB 27985.

Fuxing Park, Shanghai
These dancing enthusiasts wearing Tibetan costumes and dancing Tibetan dances are all Shanghainese, tirelessly dancing one piece after another in the park in the dreary winter.
I came across this chap (leaning on the column) in St. Peter’s Square, Manchester along with two of ‘Helpers’. I asked him if his ‘full plate camera’ was in use or just for show. He said it was but had been adapted to take film. I also asked if his hat was an Ansel Adams statement; he just smiled and said “It might be”. I never saw him use the camera but saw him later in the afternoon and he had moved to another area; so maybe he had taken some photos.
