Cotton Spinning Mill Oberwaltersdorf - The abandoned mill has been converted into flats, but an old steam engine remained in one of the buildings.
Abandoned steam engine of former Cotton Mill Oberwaltersdorf / Lower Austria
The steam engine has been built by Maschinenfabrik "Märky, Bromovsky & Schulz", Königgrätz.
This engine is usually described as 'primitive'
But it was quite sophisticated for it's time !
Aluminium block with replacable iron liners (replace them along with the pistons - and you have a brand new engine)
Aluminium head
Aluminium intake manifold
Cartrige type full-flow oil filter
Exhaust gas recirculation system to improve ecological issues
But also it has primitive solid adjustable valve lifters and manual choke
The steam seemed to eclipse the morning sun as Engine #19 of the SVRy runs down the tracks to Sumpter Depot.
Wearing the latest blue and white paint scheme, a westbound Conrail piggyback train with four engines up front gets their signal from the operator at ALTO and starts their journey westbound over the mountain.

Never leave dragons home alone.
Always try the DEMO first.
If you have to pay for it, it is NOT a gift.
L@@k for the free groups & free gifts.
The tail, the tail, the TAIL....I went to the Engine Room Event for the tail!!! Still opening all the wonderful gifts, thank you.

The Sterling Engine showcases thermodynamic elegance, converting heat into mechanical work through cyclic compression and expansion of gas. It operates at high efficiency with minimal entropy production compared to combustion engines. By harnessing temperature differentials, it reveals how energy flow and entropy interplay, emphasizing sustainability in closed-system energy transfer.
A small cup with hot water, an engine on top, and a small ice pack to create a temperature differential since I didn’t have the AC and it was in the 80s; increase the speed.
Note: You can reverse the temperature differential by adding ice to the bottom of the cup and placing a cotton ball soaked in warm water on top. This setup inverts the usual heat flow—demonstrating reversed thermal gradients. When heat is concentrated at the bottom, the wheel spins counterclockwise; when cold is at the bottom, the wheel spins clockwise.
