HMS Endeavour, also known as HM Bark Endeavour, was a British Royal Navy research vessel that Lieutenant James Cook commanded to Australia and New Zealand on his first voyage of discovery from 1768 to 1771. (Wiki)
This replica is anchored in Whitby, where James Cook began his three major voyages.. Firstly on the Endeavour then the Adventure and Discovery... (another ship Cook commanded was the Resolution)
She (the Endeavour) departed Plymouth in August 1768, rounded Cape Horn, and reached Tahiti in time to observe the 1769 transit of Venus across the Sun. She then set sail into the largely uncharted ocean to the south, stopping at the Pacific islands of Huahine, Borabora, and Raiatea to allow Cook to claim them for Great Britain. In September 1769, she anchored off New Zealand, the first European vessel to reach the islands since Abel Tasman's Heemskerck 127 years earlier. (Wiki)
This is a replica of the HMS Endeavour, completed in 1994. It is moored at the Australian National Maritime Museum, in the shadow of the Sydney CBD.

Moray Endeavour in Buckie early on Thursday morning. I always find this green vessel a tricky one to photograph but I like the light on it here.

The Endeavour was a research sailing ship launched in the 1700's for Capt James Cook's voyage to find Australia.
In this picture is a much smaller copy used as a pleasure craft sailing out of Whitby and along the East Coast of North Yorkshire.
This image was shot as the ship was entering the harbour at the River Esk, Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.

Replica of Captain James Cook's Bark Endeavour in Whitby harbour. In the 18th century, this meant a 'cat' or bluff-bowed ship of shallow draught which could be taken close into land - ideal for his survey and mapping work.

RV Cefas Endeavour is an ocean-going fisheries research vessel based at the port of Lowestoft and owned by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas).

From our trip down to Kennedy Space Center this past week - Ken was a proud recipient of the Space Flight Awareness award given by NASA. He was thanked and presented his award by NASA Marshall Space Flight Center director, Robert Lightfoot, and astronaut Dr. Stan Love. We had VIP access to KSC, were THIS close to Endeavour, and VIP seating 3 miles away on Banana River for the launch. Unfortunately, the mission has scrubbed this time, too, and has been rescheduled at this time for May 10th. This is to be Endeavor's last launch and voyage.
We returned home to the north Alabama area to mass tornado destruction- thankful that family and friends are safe. Ironically, AND luckily, we were the only ones in our circle of family/friends with material losses, as a storage unit we had was hard hit in the Tanner area- almost the ONLY door standing, out of many units there! Thanks to great family and friends ~ Kathy & Phil, my sister Tammy, her hubby Fred, son Fred Allen, Fred Allen’s girlfriend Sara, daughters Marlina and Amanda, and two friends of Fred Allen’s - our heroes who moved what could be salvaged to safety. Great thanks to Renee & Brent, who kept some of our birds safe during the tornados and throughout the mass power outage, and to our son, Shane, who took care of the rest of our zoo at home. THANK YOU SO MUCH! We can never repay you guys!

Transbordador espacial Endeavour en viaje final hacia museo en Los Ángeles
El transbordador espacial estadounidense Endeavour inició su viaje final el viernes a una velocidad totalmente inusual para lo que está acostumbrado, 3,2 kilómetros por hora, en un recorrido meticulosamente planeado por las calles de Los Ángeles.
Unos 400 árboles fueron cortados (lo cual provocó protestas de algunos vecinos), y varias líneas de electricidad debieron apagarse para dejar paso al vehículo de 78 toneladas en su desfile de 19 kilómetros y dos días de duración hasta el museo estatal California Science Center.
La enorme nave espacial de color blanco, comenzó su movimiento al inicio de la tarde, dando la impresión de ser un gigantesco crucero transoceánico que atravesaba de manera surrealista el paisaje urbano compuesto en su mayoría por edificios de baja altura de Los Ángeles.
"Es estupendo ver una nave espacial en la calle", declaró un espectador al canal local de televisión KCAL 9, que emite en directo la retransmisión de la lenta procesión del transbordador por los largos bulevares de la ciudad llenos de observadores.
El transbordador, que viajó más de 185 millones de kilómetros en su carrera de dos décadas, aterrizó en el aeropuerto internacional de Los Ángeles (LAX), hace tres semanas adosado a un Boeing 747 especialmente acondicionado para la ocasión.
Desde entonces ha permanecido en el hangar del aeropuerto. Aunque salió de su refugio la noche del jueves para su trayecto, aún a riesgo de producir caos en el tráfico antes de llegar a su destino final el sábado.
Para el viaje, el transbordador fue montado en un soporte de alta tecnología especialmente diseñado para la ocasión, aunque en ciertos puntos serán necesarios giros ajustados que lo acercarán a apenas centímetros de algunos edificios.
"Estamos listos para un gran comienzo", dijo el jefe del California Science Center, Jeffrey Rudolph. "Todo se está cumpliendo según lo planificado, exactamente como esperábamos. Tenemos todavía un gran camino por delante, pero este es un movimiento extremadamente complejo -en el que trabajan muchas personas- y realmente lo apreciamos", añadió.
Una vez en movimiento los organizadores caminaban por delante de la lenta bestia, que pesa lo mismo que 30 elefantes, con megáfonos para hacer sonar la alarma si alguna parte de la nave corre el riesgo de golpear algo.
El transportador dirigido por computador consiste en cuatro unidades separadas y equipadas con ruedas, que pueden operar de manera independiente su carga en caso de dificultad en algunas de las esquinas.
El excomandante del transbordador Mark Kelly, que fue capitán del vuelo final del Endeavour, afirmó que esperaba que éste se convierta en la inspiración para una generación futura de astronautas.
"Quizá algún día alguno de estos chicos que mira el Endeavour, y lo observa en el California Science Center, será la persona que camina en el planeta Marte", dijo a la cadena CNN, añadiendo: "Eso sería algo fantástico".
Luego del cierre del programa de transbordadores espaciales de la NASA el año pasado, después de 30 años de servicio, varias ciudades de Estados Unidos se pelearon por hospedar alguno de los transbordadores.
Enterprise, el prototipo que nunca voló al espacio, se exhibe de forma permanente en la pista de aterrizaje del portaaviones "Intrepid" del Museo del Aire y el Espacio de Nueva York.
El Centro Espacial Kennedy, en Cabo Cañaveral, Florida (sureste), albergará el Atlantis, mientras que el Discovery fue llevado al Centro Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, un anexo del Museo Nacional del Aire y del Espacio en Virginia, cerca de la capital federal.
