And a heaven in a wild flower,

Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,

"The color of infinity inside an empty glass"

Honfleur is a commune in the Calvados department in Normandy en.normandie-tourisme.fr/normandy-tourism-109-2.html in northwestern France. It is located on the southern bank of the estuary of the Seine across from le Havre and very close to the exit of the Pont de Normandie. Its inhabitants are called Honfleurais. It is especially known for its old, beautiful picturesque port, characterized by its houses with slate-covered frontages, painted many times by artists, including in particular Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet and Johan Jongkind, forming the école de Honfleur (Honfleur school) which contributed to the appearance of the Impressionist movement. The Sainte-Catherine church, which has a bell tower separate from the principal building, is the largest church made out of wood in France. The first written record of Honfleur is a reference by Richard III, Duke of Normandy, in 1027. By the middle of the 12th century, the city represented a significant transit point for goods from Rouen to England. Located on the estuary of one of the principal rivers of France with a safe harbour and relatively rich hinterland, Honfleur profited from its strategic position from the start of the Hundred Years' War. The town's defences were strengthened by Charles V in order to protect the estuary of the Seine from attacks from the English. This was supported by the nearby port of Harfleur. However, Honfleur was taken and occupied by the English in 1357 and from 1419 to 1450. When under French control, raiding parties often set out from the port to ransack the English coasts, including partially destroying the town of Sandwich, in Kent, England, in the 1450s. At the end of the Hundred Years' War, Honfleur benefited from the boom in maritime trade until the end of the 18th century. Trade was disturbed during the wars of religion in the 16th century. The port saw the departure of a number of explorers, in particular in 1503 of Binot Paulmierde Gonneville to the coasts of Brazil. In 1506, local man Jean Denis departed for Newfoundland island and the mouth of the Saint Lawrence. An expedition in 1608, organised by Samuel de Champlain, founded the city of Quebec in modern day Canada. After 1608, Honfleur thrived on trade with Canada, the West Indies, the African coasts and the Azores. As a result, the town became one of the five principal ports for the slave trade in France. During this time the rapid growth of the town saw the demolition of its fortifications on the orders of Colbert. The wars of the French revolution and the First Empire, and in particular the continental blockade, caused the ruin of Honfleur. It only partially recovered during the 19th century with the trading of wood from northern Europe. Trade was however limited by the silting up of the entrance to the port and development of the modern port at Le Havre. The port however still functions today. On August 25, 1944, Honfleur was liberated together by the British army - 19th Platoon of the 12th Devon's, 6th Air Landing Brigade, the Belgian army (Brigade Piron) on 25 August 1944.[1] and the Canadian army without any combat. en.normandie-tourisme.fr/articles/honfleur-278-2.html

A quick snap of an empty glass. I thought the way the shadow looked on it was pretty cool.

That was such minimalistic magic moment @ midnight of the last day in July ... Strangely enough this year was both completely f...d up & incredibly productive

An abstract close-up of an empty gin glass. Warm golden light is refracted through the curved glass surface, creating flowing vertical streaks and soft highlights.

Full, empty, half full or half empty...

In these times we're having, how is your glass doing? Is there still place for optimism?

''I never drink... wine.'' :D

This was a click on a quick stop at a road side vendor. I realized that this chouki (wooden cot) has natural wear and tear from serving 1000s of traveler which visited this stall over years.

...for the road, one more cup of coffee 'fore I go

Don't you just hate it when your glass has a leak? That look of sheer disappointment!

Sunday morning on the Piazza

Okay, firstly no I haven't drunk all these bottles of wine - it's just for my first "52 Weeks in 2015" photo! I've been out all day so therefore it would have been impossible!

Anyway, supposed to be the results of a drunken evening and thereafter the thought of this poor guy having to get rid of the evidence before his wife, returns home!!

52 Weeks in 2015 - Week 1 ~ Out With The Old ....

Thanks to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo .... thanks to you all.

Great little moment, saw these two girl tucking into there sausage and took this sneaky snap. I like the the girl on the right is glancing at me as I took the shot.

Taken of a recent photo workshop I ran in Munich at the S 184 Gallery.

One of the tasks on the workshop is to shot a list of 66 things on 2 rolls on film in 3 hours, I always take part as well so the people on the course can see what I can do with 72 exposures. This was for one of "blind shot" (photo taken when not looking though the view finder), some of the other things on the list are not so literal. The next courses are on the weekend of 17th-18th Nov 2011 and the weekend of 9th-10th Feb 2013 in Brighton.

Have to try to get rid of the color finging and calibrate the lens to get a bit sharper images.

The POW/MIA or Missing Man Table:

www.defense.gov/external-content/story/Article/2776327/th...

The POW/MIA Missing Man Table ceremony is a dignified and solemn moment in many formal dinners and other occasions.

There have been many different narratives written for the ceremony, but the symbolism is quite constant. It involves a table, usually set off to the side, with a single chair.

The table is set with a white tablecloth, a single candle, a book of faith (optional), an inverted glass, and a single red rose in a vase, around which is tied a red or yellow ribbon.

Set at the table is a plate containing a slice of lemon and a small amount of salt.

There is nothing more poignant than witnessing the empty chair sitting at a POW/MIA table with incredible significance for every displayed feature of this ritual.

Witnessing the ceremony that accompanies this memorable event brings more than just a single emotion. The ceremony is performed many times, throughout the year, at official military events in remembrance and in honor of all POW/MIAs.

Side note from me: I did not mean to cut off the eagle's head on the left. There was no more room to back up in order to get the full area I was hoping for. It was a small room.

i admit it. i'm one of those freaks who carry their point & shoots everywhere -- and i do mean everywhere. so when i went to the loo in the dublin house last weekend while hanging with the mahonys, i was armed and ready... and when i pushed open the door and saw this empty glass sitting there, forgotten by some drunken chick the night before, i squealed as my jaw dropped. there it was, like a gift. just sitting there, communing with the chrome. waiting for me to notice.

i know this shot is grainy as all get-out, but it's one of my fav bathroom pics, cos it reminds me of the silly little things in life that make my heart sing.
