The 'hallowed' El Mocambo is open again! The famous venue (since 1948) has almost disappeared from the map, but local millionaire found some spare change and renovated the place in last 6-7 years. Looks OK from outside, but did not see it from inside, yet.

El Mocambo. One of the many great live music venues in Toronto. Has been around since 1948

Seen on the third floor of the El Mocambo, a Doors Open Toronto volunteer next to an over life size photo of iconic performer Blondie (Debbie Harry).

I played my first Toronto show here in '99. It's not at all the same anymore but it's still a Toronto classic. Open since 1948, the Stones played here in '77 with Margaret Trudeau looking on. Blondie played here around the same time, also Stevie Ray Vaughan, Meatloaf and Richie Havens to name a few.

The neon El Mocambo palm tree sign was constructed in 1946. But tomorrow night, Thursday November 6th will end a 68 year run for the famous Toronto music club. The fate of the neon sign unknown.

The El Mocambo has been a fixture of the Toronto live music scene for... forever. I've always loved the sign.

Ridiculous moniker aside, Seattle's NPSH played the sweatiest set of dance fueled electro-pop that I've seen in a while, working the crowd into an uncontrolled frenzy.

The El Mocambo Tavern (aka and affectionately known as "The El Mo") is the famous live music and entertainment venue in Toronto, Canada where the Rollings Stones recorded their infamous Love You Live album. Infamous because of the attendance of the former Prime Minister's Pierre Trudeau's wife Margaret. The El Mo has seen better days than is captured here. The Canadian band April Wine, opened for the Stones who were masquerading anonymously as "The Cockroaches" (is this an anti-Beatles thing?) on March 4, 1977. It was the Stones first live club date in 14 years.
