The Walker Sisters were 5 old maid daughters of John Walker, a Civil War Vet. The sisters were granted a life estate to their father's land when the Park took it in the 30's. Around 1964 or 65, the last of the 5 sisters passed and the GSMNP gained full control of the property. The sisters were distant cousins of my maternal grandmother, Grace Walker Tarwater.
