Join Okwui Okpokwasili on a walk that explores the making of an “embodied collective” in the charged landscape of the South Bronx. Facilitating a multi-sensory exchange with each other and the space, we will slowly walk through the Gold Coast Trading Company (an African market) and work toward an expansive group practice of dynamic movement. No previous dance experience required.

This walk holds 12 people.

A native of India and Africa, it is found along

roadsides, in parks and lawns and where the soil

is compacted. On farms it tends to occur around

houses, sheds and along tracks.

These Plastic Elastic Table covers have elastic around their edge. Just slip them on one side of your table and stretch it over the other side. The wind cannot blow it off the table.

No need to use tape, tacks, clothes pins, or clips. Save time on installation and removal.

Huge rolls of elastic in a mattress factory

Sacada en el circo y haciendo milagros con la poca luz que había, aun asi me encantó :)

I made a quick narrow hem on the treadle, then sewed in the elastic, using a strip of blue tape for the edge guide. Setting up the foot took longer than sewing around the liner.

@HOLY ROOM

Using elastic properties of stretchable materials, components are inserted in thread matrices that hold them strongly. Next step would be to find or create a conductive thread matrix version of this stretch garment. It exists in materials research labs [ in sweden (lena berglin) and also in gent (project SWEET) ] but they are not on the market yet :( for instance the beautiful tfcg.elis.ugent.be/projects/stretchable.html

This material opens also the opportunity to think about stapleable electronics that would be inserted between the threads. Smt films could be placed by a specific stapler, and the connections ruggerized with a thermostreching process.

One big advantage of this elastic is also how it facilitates arduino to get out the breadboard ;)

This is how it looks once the elastic has been sewn on. I always place my elastic's join at the CB seam and use it as my start/finish point.

Tim Nolan

Phantom Galleries, L.A. presents its inaugural exhibit at the Pacifica Building in Long Beach, curated by artist Timothy Nolan. In response to the first appearance of the TED Conference in Long Beach this February, Super Elastic brings together large works from four Los Angeles-based artists whose work addresses our expanding visual landscape, propelled by advances in science and technology. From the subatomic to the super galactic, imagery coming from electron microscopes and the Hubble telescope is now an integral part of the culture. Quantum mechanics, relativity, the Big Bang, chaos theory, multi-dimensional math, etc., have all irrevocably shifted the consciousness of our society, even if many have little or no knowledge on the subjects. Scientists and mathematicians are busily trying to solve the puzzles of the universe, and these four artists exploit these puzzles for all they're worth.

Julia Latane's Blue Superstrings, inspired by the mind boggling concepts of string theory, springs from the wall and undulates to and fro. Rebecca Niederlander's mobiles are clearly of the natural world, but their spindly rotating flourishes could go micro or macro, referring to plant structures or meteor showers. Likewise, in wall drawings made with Mylar tape, Carrie Ungerman builds tension that evokes mighty asteroids colliding, or the tenderness of cell division. Nolan's repeated triangle floor work plays with the geometry of crystal formations while conjuring a fourth dimension with its double-mirrored surfaces. Although each artist is very literate in the history of pattern-based abstraction, conceptually and aesthetically, they are inspired by and draw liberally from an infinite pool of scientific inquiry.

lately ive gotten really hooked on these blue dot beads. They have two holes running through them which means you can weave them together into a really nice pattern...

Picnic Anyone ? These table covers make setting up and cleaning up easier.

The elastic in the edge of the cover stretches around the table's edge and holds tight !

When the party is over, stretch it back around the table edge and gather it up like a trash bag. Throw the whole contents of the table away - quick and easy !
