This was the neighborhood district we stayed in while in Barcelona. The Eixample (pronounced Eye-shom-pluh) was one of the city's original suburbs built in the late 19th and early 20th Century and is considered the heart of Barcelona's Modernista movement. It features wide, tree-lined avenues and is car-friendly. This is the building across the street from our hotel and is representative of what the neighborhood looks like.
One of many inner residential gardens within city blocks being restored (after demolishing many improvised or invasive businesses structures) according to the original Plan Cerda. Not quite as beautiful and glorious as it was meant to be, but still an improvement over having the inner area covered with ugly structures of all kinds.
This is the access from the street.
